My doc told me that the temp can show higher because the mask heats up your forehead. Her suggestion was to hold my hand between my mask and head before they use the thermometer to get cooler air on it

If it still shows high she double checks it on my inner arm.

I'm not saying this isn't true, but I don't see how your breathe could be warmer than your body temperature. Can it? Somehow?

I heard some discussion about "normal body temperature" on a radio show the other day. Apparently average has been dropping over time and is now more in the neighborhood of 97.7 or so. Which maybe makes 99 a fever for a lot of people? The thing is, temperature isn't a great way to detect someone who's got this particular virus. It's just relatively easy and might be better than nothing.

none of them are wearing masks nor social distancing!

Yes, you can kill people once they're born, that's ok.

average has been dropping over time

What I learned in nursing school is average temp is a range. Anywhere from 96.6 to 99 is normal. Yours may be higher or lower, but it is still normal for you within that range.

People here are doing better with masks, but they are mad about it. They don't social distance. We live in a rural area with a very low covid count, so everyone feels safe or doesn't believe in it. That's a good way to get covid.

this and the ‘it’s other people’s behaviour that’s the problem’ attitude.

I developed a rash this week. It’s not unusual for me to have weird things happen with my body , but a rash has been noted as the less commonly spoken of early symptom. I have only met with the two households who came for Horses, outside, staying two metres away. One is a nurse, but otherwise chances are low. Nevertheless, dh and I immeadiaty quarantined, the others have done the ponies and we have only gone out when the yard is empty, disinfecting every gate we touch etc. We are not scared in the least and would be very surprised if this is covid - but that’s what quarantine and other distancing measures are for - for when you don’t think it’s a problem yet it might turn out to be. Just because I feel fine and chances are very tiny does not make me an exception.

But @Mee, it is others behavior. I don't understand what you mean. I know it's my behavior too. If you're talking about looking for someone to blame, I agree that it's a useless practice. Placing blame doesn't do anything to help the problem. I just hope we all can work together to lessen the effect this is having on the world.

I mean liking only at others and not ourselves - imagining we cannot catch it - I know and no of many I. My circumstances who are not quarantining. Or who violated lock down rules ‘but just to see their mother/ best friend’ whatever. The rules apply to us all- and even better would be applying best practice beyond the rules if we are able to.

there was big temptation for me to ‘just slip out’ yesterday onto my own property and stand away from other people where something interesting was happening - but it would have been utterly selfish . I still felt the pull. I won’t excuse myself because then I become someone finger pointing yet - part of the problem.

So it has to be that.

^But no it doesn't.

Think about it. Gases exhaled from the lungs are probably the body temp., until they reach outside.
Then they'd cool off or even heat up depending on the ambient temperature.
Actually heating up your forehead above the temp it's already at? huh?

Were you anxious, in a hurry - even moderate exercise will raise body temp or wearing too many clothes on a hot day? All/any/possibly other causes more likely.

But @blackemerald1, if you took the temp in the lungs, the norms would be higher because inside the body, your temp is higher. If you take your temp under your arm, you add a degree, if you take it rectally it will be a degree higher than orally.
