You Know You Have PTSD When...

You know you have PTSD when the forum is quiet, no-one is chatting and you think it is all your fault and that you have upset every single member - doh

I thought I was the only one who did this...

When your daily emotiinal rollercoaster goes from the joys of a great accolade at work to you crying in the bathroom stall 5 minutes later because you feel unworthy of the air you breathe...

Yeah, me too. You might have PTSD if you don't need to ride a rollercoaster at the amusment part because you feel like you never get off one anyway.

Or if you listen to people talk about drug trips or DT's they've been on, and it's less weird than what you went through yesterday stone cold sober.

Oh yes, oh yes.

You know you have PTSD when you stub your toe and someone asks you, "Are you okay?" and you totally break down sobbing because you are not okay and it has NOTHING to do with your toe. >.<

When anytime you are going to or from your car, anywhere, you hold your keys as a weapon until you get inside the car or building. The pointy end of the big car key sticking out, firmly wedged between middle and ring finger. And this has become second nature.

When you go out in public you are watching everyone around you so intently for signs of a threat that they start acting suspicious of you.

You feel certain that every man who walks by or looks at you is thinking about hurting you.

When anyone walks by, or you have to walk by someone else you have to go out of your way to walk well out of their reach, and you quicken your pace as you go, the whole time bracing for the attack.

I was advised on a women safety course to do this.

Also to reverse park so that when the drivers door is open, it is a natural barrier between you and the front of the car - of course this is after you've walked around the back of the car and checked the boot and back seat for possible threats

Let's add checking under the car (there were a series of robberies in SC where the guy hid UNDER the car, then jerked women's ankles out from under them), parking under streetlights, exiting stores with groups of other shoppers, gripping all the keys between fingers so it's a lot like brass knucles... only with keys, and watching to make sure no drivers follow you out of the parking lot.

No wonder I get tired shopping. And that doesn't even include body-issue freakouts in the dressing room mirrors.:p

What about checking all the doors and windows at least twice and also checking closets and under the bed before you can go to sleep. And then every time you wake in the night you have to recheck everything all over again.:cautious:

You know you have Ptsd, when you walk into a busy pub (bar), see people you know well and ignore them because you automatically dismiss them as not a threat and are still checking out everyone else there.
Then about 15 minutes later realise they are there and you haven't even said hello.
