I cant take meds I abuse them. I hate shrinks becuase I just work them for meds. I cant take it seriously, at all. The whole innerchild, learn to love your self thing dose NOT work for me. So am I just all around screwed? Or can anyone tell me what works best from home. No doctors, shrinks, therapy involved?

Move over and let me grab one of those oars.

As something you 'can' do now, have you thought about some form of martial arts? As in real martial arts which incorporates whole of life skills, balance, awareness, courage, judgement etc? Might help to burn off some adrenalin, while also helping focus and perspective. And they wont give you drugs, or talk about your inner child.

Something I am finding helps a lot, with my memory, attention, retaining things and cognitive skills in general (rebuilding the brain) is Luminosity (use google) and its helped more than anything else so far. I can see my good days and my bad, I can see skills for normal life things I have to do...improving. And thats making me more confident to take on other things as I go.

Good luck

It's true. Exercise is like a cure all. It is helps with all sorts of health problems and is known to stabilize mental health. I once heard it is a "natural anti depressant."

I'm sorry your experiences with counseling have been negative. I totally know what you mean about therapists that are little more than medication dispensers. It's very upsetting, like they don't even pay attention to what you're saying, they just want to fill your mouth with pills. There are medications out there that can help with anxiety that are non habit forming. I'm on Zoloft right now and it has helped immensely with my stress and anxiety levels.

I know a lot of people on this forum have had bad experiences with Ts. I had my share of them, but I kept looking for help every chance I could. I'm very glad that I kept looking because when I finally found a T that could help me it changed my life for the better in ways I never thought were possible.

Perhaps you could look for a psychologist and upon your first meeting let him or her know that the practice of connecting and nurturing your inner child is not something you feel at ease with. Let them know what you feel has or has not worked for you in the past.
