Sometimes when I travel, if I've forgotten to bring something to read, I'll take a word and see how many words I can make from a single word.

For instance: people - pop, pep, lop, lope, plop, pee, pole, peel, leep, pope, eel, leo, ope (archaic)

It helps distract me from crowds and strangers which make me terrified.

I have a brain teaser book. So here is one.

Find the Error

A coffee company made a survey of the number of people who drink tea and coffee. An investigatior handed in the following report to the president of the company.

Number of people interviewed..............................100
Number of people who drink coffee.......................78
Number of people who drink tea............................71
Number of people who drink both coffee and tea.....48
Number of peopl who drink neither tea or coffee.....0

When the president read the report, he noticed a mistake and fired the interviewer. What was the error?

His tally added up to 101

Is the trick in the first line - that the survey was of people who drank "tea and coffee" so all of those interviewed should have drunk "tea and coffee" and what were they interviewing them about?

Great idea. Here's a brain teaser: A person is holding a photograph and says:

Brothers and sisters have I none.
but this man's father is my father's son.

Who is in the picture?

The man in the picture is the father's sons only son/only child.

Apologies if I'm missing something, but is this the actual competition page or are we just having some riddle banter just now? I've enjoyed reading it either way, but turns out I'm not very good at any of them except the word one. It has made me want to play braintraining on my nintedo DS, which I haven't picked up in a couple of years. The one about the photograph confused me for a very long time, so well done to the folks who worked that out.

I think it has something to do with the people who drink coffee and tea.

• of the 78 people who drink coffee, 48 also drink tea - leaving 30 only coffee drinkers
• of the 71 people who drink tea, 48 also drink coffee - leaving 23 only tea drinkers
• so if you add 48 coffee and tea drinkers, 30 coffee only drinkers and 23 tea only drinkers you get 101 people but there were only 100 participants.
