Lifestyle Change With Food

My darling husband is a bit of a yo-yo person with his weight but has been pretty good for awhile now until he got into reading where a box of biscuits disappears without a thought. He's not overweight but it's not good getting to a point of putting on kilos where the pants don't fit and then starving yourself so I'm trying to aim for better long term management.

I am trying to make a lifestyle change in what we eat regularly so we are both healthier and live longer.

Before I met Anthony I used to eat more fish and vegetables where he has been a pasta, sausages, meat and a couple of vegetables person who is bad with snack and boredom eating.

Just emptied out the pantry and all the 'snacks' are gone being replaced in Anthony's point of view with "herbs and spices" and the fridge is full of healthy low fat food. We just need to now make snacks in advance. Anthony has already just put his first snack in the oven. He hasn't gone into shock yet but is talking to his stomach :giggle: and has now named it 'Ted' - lets hope he doesn't adopt Ted's attitude. :ninja: Anyway, he did just confess to pigging out for the last two days knowing this started today.

We are starting with the Dukan Diet (as my cleaning lady has lost weight healthily via this and been able to manage and maintain it while having the odd treat like a cruise, holiday etc with only a couple of kilos to deal with after being 'naughty').

We have also hired a treadmill as I struggle to find the time to get out walking during daylight hours.

Wish us luck!!

We have just done a bit of a lifestyle change as far as food goes.

We already do eat meat and fresh veg, but not enough fruit and too much chocolate. So out had gone half of the chocolate and we now eat a lot more fruit.

Also added in Omega 3 capsules as we dont eat or really like oily fish.

Wishing you the best on your diet!!!

I always had a tendency to "pooh pooh" people who stressed the importance of diet in all over health. But after radically changing my diet in January, I will never again discount the importance of a good diet.

Not sure what the Dukan Diet is, but do get rid of processed foods as much as possible. Also, those foods high in tryptophans really do help with improving mood in the long term. Don't forget the water!!

Hope you find the lifestyle change enjoyable as well as healthy. I've had a lot of fun learning new recipes and trying dishes from different countries.

too much chocolate.

What could this mean?!?!?:roflmao:

We are now moderately hard core California foodies (gluten free, quasi Paleo diet eaters) but...

We used to make fun of the fruity nutty California food wierdo's - you know, "the ones who don't eat bread and stuff." And now, "they" are "us".

If you haven't run across it - Gary Taubes (physicist turned "bad science" investigator/reporter) has some really really interesting talks/articles on bad nutrition science and what makes us fat. Several of his lectures are on youtube.

Godspeed on your eating project Nicolette - my (brilliant) chemist cousin says "food is the key to everything."

Good luck for your lifestyle change. I'm about to embark with weight watchers. I have been putting it off for several weeks now, but I'm running out of excuses!! So I'm planning to start on Monday.

I finally have everything in place (hence, no more excuses), books, kitchen scales, bathroom scales, recipes etc. I need a lifestyle change, but I don't just have a few pounds to loose, I have several stone to loose

Hopefully the encouragement you receive, will spur me on too ;)

Good luck to you guys on your food changes. I tried to start last Monday, but only made it a few days before I completely caved and ate a bunch of very unhealthy food. Now it is time to start fresh again :)

I find the hardest thing is conquering the cravings...they always nag at me until I cave in, lol. I hope you all do well...you, Anthony, and Ted, lol.

Wow, good luck to everyone with the changes. I'm trying, but it's a piece-by-piece thing. The evening ice cream has been replaced with fresh fruit... not a big step, but any step in the right direction is a good one. If I learn how to cook I won't eat so much processed junk, so that's a big part of the project.

I am so hyper I have trouble keeping weight. Over many years of aiding others with diets I feel the most important mental aspect is "lifestyle habit". Scales are great for weighing food but are emotionally damaging. You don't need a scale to remind you that your cheating on your diet. Just be honest. Not all "diets" will produce the same results. Eating healthy can. Not only can a brain be addicted to food our stomach can be addicted to the quantity. Learn the art of healthy eating and size will take second place. It will not happen overnight...baby steps! I am sending healing energy and positive reinforcement on this journey! One must get to the root of the unhealthy habit. Hugs Whitney
