The Hunger Games Trilogy

I wonder if this happened in our lives how long it would take for children to rebel against the system... I know my kids would not tolerate it., despite the fact the the powers that be might punish the district.

Mmmm, but then your kids have been brought up having rights. I wonder if they grew up in that system, the lack of information and communication, the threat of starvation, seeing the brutal consequences of not complying, and the inter-dependency for survival that makes it imperative to not cause trouble for your families and allies...? Maybe they'd tolerate it for your sake. Katniss is very driven by wanting to protect her family, especially Prim - but has few options.

BTW, teen read is quite enough for my concentration level LOL. I think that's partly why I liked it.

Hope you enjoy the next 2 books.

Hi Cath, Yes the books are great, when I started reading I couldn't put them down till I was finished. I was lucky enough to buy them whilst in Birmingham for our get together. Bargain price of 8 pounds.

Brought the books back to Australia for my 14 year old granddaughter, she borrowed them from her school library to read so loved the present. Recently went to see the first movie of the series, which was pretty spot on with the story. Although they couldn't incorporate all the details into the movie. There will be another three movies made to complete the series.

You will enjoy the final book.

I've just read the first part of book 2 and am loving it!

This book is exciting, frighting and addictive. It is very well written and I can't wait to see how it pans out.

I know I'm late to this series, but just started it yesterday. I finished the first book earlier this afternoon and have started the second book already. I've only read the first page of posts in this thread because I don't want to inadvertently read any spoilers.

This is another series that I was reluctant to read, but am sorry I waited so long. Loved the first book and hope that the next two are equally as captivating.

Half way through book 2.

This book has cause so many emotions to materialise as I read it. Mostly anger at how these people are treated and kept in order by the powers that be.

It is a compelling book and hits home because I can actually visualise life like this in the not-so-distant future. Very disturbing.

Do you mean the dictatorship?

Kind of Hashi.

More like it starts with the 'Nanny State' where everything is done 'for the good of the people' but gradually, as people complain and start to protest, it becomes a dictatorship where people live in fear of putting a foot wrong. Where freedom of choice means nothing and some areas of the country have stricter controls than others.

I don't know where you live Hashi but in the UK it sometimes seems that we are heading this way. That our government makes decisions and the public they represent have no say in the matter. In the UK our young people are discouraged and angry with how our country is being run and although nothing like in the Hunger Games it is worrying.

Hope that helps.

I am half way through book 3 and am loving it. These are my kind of books, full of emotion and action. I can hardly put them down.

Katniss is an exceptional character. I think I would have given up by now if I was in her situation. This Hunger Games arena seems so much more frightening than the last one.

District 13. Has she gone out of the frying pan and into the fire?

I finished the series now and really enjoyed all 3 books.

I found the books exciting and disturbing at the same time. It did not end quite how I expected which is a good thing.

I haven't seen the films so that will be something I'm looking out for.

An incredibly good read.
