You Know You Have PTSD When...

to go out afterwards to lunch with everyone, but you are affraid to do so at the same time, but affraid of what exactly, God only knows

I tend to turn down opportunities more often than not because of that. I usually end up regretting it.

I use to have issues going to my son's events. Now I haven't had any events recently. I know they are coming back up because my youngest will, once again, be in orchestra and my oldest is thinking of trying out for football.

Just crazy to me to be an adult and feel this way. I hate it.

I did it though, and I enjoyed it. We went to a Mexican place and then we went to the local nursing home and visited the folks there. Old folks in nursing homes don't scare me at all. My beloved hubby was in one for the last 3 yrs of his life, so I know what it is like to be lonely there. We shook hands, smiled and my PTSD Service Dog came with me and everyone loved her! One guy even wanted to hold her (she is a dachshund, weighing 13 pounds). She was so happy to get all the attention. And since she was getting the attention, I wasn't nervous. It was OK.

I usually find, if I say yes, that, after the initial anxiety, I calm down. Happens even with family.

Now that I think on it, that is true. Even with the old folks, I kinda really wanted to go there, I knew I'd be OK and I knew Babygirl would be the star of the show, which she was! I'm so happy I went. You see, my beloved hubby spent his last 3 yrs in a nursing home from 2002-2005 and I have always wanted to go, I just thought they would hassle me about my dog, but they didn't even ask to see her special licence or anything! It was great. (She was wearing her Service Dog vest too, so that made it easier).
