Hi everyone,

I have been doing well. Recently I opened my own online business. Things have been going well, I have been sleeping better so on my dr's advice I started to come off the valium...

I have had a gradual increase of night terrors. I have had 3 in the last week. On the weekend I went away for a ladies weekend with my church. I managed to get through the days, but on the first night I had a night terror.

I ended up hitting a wall and woke up two cabins full of people. I now am on painkillers and have a hand that is strapped as I have soft tissue damage.

My husband is now sleeping on the couch as it seems to be the only way that he can get sleep. I am not sure what to do about this...

Has anyone else been in a similar situation?

I had night terrors years ago, but not anymore.

It makes sense that going off the Valium opened up stuff because that med buries emotions, it doesn't get rid of them.

I had a terrible time going off Valium when I was young. Cold turkey. Big mistake. I hope that your doc has you going down a small amount on your dose for two weeks, than another slight decrease for two weeks and so on so you don't have a bad reaction.

Maybe you weren't taking as much as me or taking it every day. But if you were, it is a possibility that unexpected buried stuff will emerge. It has to get processed or it will wait around if it's been pushed down.

I am sorry you hurt your hand. That's awful. At least for me, night terrors passed. I hope yours do too, and soon.

I have night terrors all the time- in fact I thought it was fairly normal till recently. Record them on the sleep talk app. Recently I had a flashback in therapy and afterwards I had loads of night terrors. Luckily I rarely remember them; though sometimes I do. My poor husband has to deal with them though; trying to convince me that I'm safe and nothing is in the room. I'm beginning to think here trying to tell me something. They're supposed to be very rare in adults - less than 1% of the population apparently.

I suffered from night terrors for decades. Barely getting any sleep as I was too afraid of the terrors. I had them 3 to 4 times a week.

My advice is to ask you doctor for prazosin. It is extremely effective against nightmares and terrors and has almost no side effects. I started at 2 mg a night and quickly moved up to 12 mg a day. Mostly at night but I save one pill incase I wake up in the middle of the night. This has stopped my night terrors and eliminated almost all nightmares. I even have good dreams now and look forward to going to sleep for the first time in my life.

All my best to you.
