I feel like PTSD is taking over my life and I don't know what to do. I live in the UK and can't get any treatment on the NHS as I need psychological therapy and none are available through NHS. My condition has got worse and all I want is for this to end. My family hide the fact that I am ill and I have only one friend who is ill himself. I wish it would all go away and I could have peace.

Have you ever had any theraphy? Are you on medications? Do you know grounding techniques at your disposal?

I understand how hard it can be, but stay strong, it will get better. How often can you talk to that friend? Are there other people around you who can help? And how old are you, how can your family hide it? Don't you have a right of speech and similar?

Stay strong, hopefully this site helps you. remember, it gets worse before it gets better. Hear from ya

Thanks for your rely I am 45 I am on Prozac and no treatment as none is available here for me. I see my friend everyday but he's also ill. My family are strange :-( I have no support they think I am a nutter

Are you on a waiting list for NHS therapy, or have you been told that there is nothing available? If you're not on a waiting list or currently under anyone other than your GP, then I would suggest going back and asking to be referred, or re-referred, depending on what avenues you have already tried. Say that you need more support than you are getting and what services are available. If you are on a waiting list it may be that the community mental health team can help in the interim.

Depending on the nature of your trauma, there are also a number of charities who offer support and therapy to individuals. Is this something you've looked into? First contact might be Mind who should at least be able to give you an idea of what is available in your area.

I have been told that I can't have the treatment I need on the NHS. So I applied for independent funding through my GP. Which was refused and we appealed and was refused again. I haven't tried mind thank you o never thought of them

I'm sorry for your struggle getting treatment. It's an all too familiar story here in the UK. :( I hope Mind are able to offer some ideas. I know there are a number of members here receiving therapy from various charities so fingers crossed this might be an option for you too.

Where about in the U.K. are you? I only ask, as I got therapy through the NHS, mind you I had to wait a long time on the list before I got it.

In fact I'm back in the list again, after I was dropped last year, for "not responding quick enough, and had too many issues going back too many years?" As part of NHS cut backs.

You are in the right place to get help and support right here, this site has helped me a great deal, and seen me through a really touch period.

I hope you stay with us and get the support you need.

Have a look on line and see if there any facilities in another area, but not too far away.

I'm sure there must be some thing available in your area, most doctors practises have a
psychiatric nurse at least, who can refer you further up the ladder.

That's what they did with me, but they thought I was just suffering from depression? It wasn't until my first session with the therapist that the realised it was PTSD.

As apparently the symptoms are quite similar, but the anxiety, mood swings, and shakes, told them it was more than just depression.

To be honest I was relieved when they told me that I had PTSD as I thought I was going mad?

They say I just have a phobia but I have 2 private diagnosis of PTSD and disassociative dissorder it's horrible I just want it gone

There is no magic cure I'm afraid to say, all we can do is learn to live with it, and as I always say, make the best of the good days.

The only people who can actually understand what you are going through, are on sites like this one.

As non sufferers don't understand what we are going through, and have no idea of how it effects our lives?
