Ask Not What You Can Do For The Mice

But what the mice can do for you.

If you've interacted with me recently, you probably know that I have a mouse infestation that has become an obsession.

Late Sunday afternoon, I was coming to the end of Project Deter Mice, and the title sentence came to me as I scrubbed and re-scrubbed the cabinets--after I had cleaned all of my dishes twice after I had cleaned every other surface in my kitchen after I had cleared off the ever-bloating clutter from my table and having bought an armory of cleaning supplies and other necessities the day previous.

You see, these are things I'd been avoiding anyway for weeks. Basically everything I did for Project Mouse was stuff that, to a lesser degree, really, really needed to get done.

So as I toiled, I thought, what if the mice could motivate me to do other stuff? Like research more schools? Or join a book club? Or learn to grow and maintain an indoor herb garden?

If you had magic mice, what obstacles would they motivate you to overcome?

I wish I had mice that would motivate me to write that TED nomination for Anthony. ;)

They would motivate me to clean the pantry, and get rid of stuff I won't use. Then I would move on into every room and get rid of everything that doesn't bring me joy. I have a lot of "stuff" since I used to have bipolar shopping binges. Then it would be easier to keep my house neat.

I could probably use some inspiration to sort through the piles of paper on the kitchen counter, and the desk, and the end table, and on the floor by my chair....... And to get started organizing tax stuff for my accountant. (Some of what I need is probably in those piles of paper. :bag:)

@Cashew, all I really have to do is go through my appointment book and write down how much I earned and how many miles I drove and sort out some receipts for expenses. You don't actually have to know how to do the tax part, I HIRE someone to do that. It's WAY too complicated! So, if you're still interested..... :D

I don't have "magic" mice... but you reminded me of the book Who Moved my Cheese? by Spencer Johnson. Two mice (Sniff & Scurry) and two humans (Hem & Haw) in a maze ... a fable about life and work. I loved that book. I had to look up Haw's summation of his experience again:

Change Happens - They Keep Moving The Cheese
Anticipate Change - Get Ready For The Cheese To Move
Monitor Change - Smell The Cheese Often So You Know When It Is Getting Old
Adapt To Change Quickly - The Quicker You Let Go Of Old Cheese, The Sooner You Can Enjoy New Cheese
Change - Move With The Cheese
Enjoy Change! - Savor The Adventure And Enjoy The Taste Of New Cheese!
Be Ready To Change Quickly And Enjoy It Again - They Keep Moving The Cheese.
