Hi everyone.
I am currently taking Zyban but it is no longer working for me. I am seeking advice and information on any new medications available.
I have been on so many, too many to write them all.
Any news, anyone trying a new medication or anyone who can recommend a medication.
I have a doctors appointment on Friday so need some suggestions to look up before I go. All help, suggestions will be greatly received.

I will be curious to see how people respond. I'm in the same predicament!

This seems wrong to me. Patients don't recommend drugs in Australia. Surely, if the doctor doesn't know the drug, they shouldn't be prescribing it? Isn't the real solution to see a psychiatrist instead of a GP?

Hi there.
What you say is true but my consultant just asked me what I want him to do. They say I am institutionalised and seem fed up with me.
The usual response from them after waiting sometimes 6 or more months to see them is... What do you want us to do? Which then fills me with dread and leaves me feeling that there is no hope.
No what I do is research the medications myself, go to my GP then get referred to my consultant. He says yes, sends a letter to my GP to say yes and my GP gives me what I have asked for.
I wish things were better here as it is a real struggle to do all this especially when I feel so unwell.
Things with the mental health system in England just get worse..

I am researching Zoloft/Setraline. I have read some very promising reviews.
Have you tried this?
The best medication I was ever on was Duloxetine/Cymbalta My sister takes it and recommended it to me. The only side affect I found with it was over sweating. But this soon passed. I was on it for years but my body got used to it so it stopped working. I am hoping a year or two off of it will make it work again for me. I would like to try it again after a year or two break from it.

Sounds like you need a new doctor, more than a new medication.
A new mental health system is the answer here. My GP's usually back me 100% but their hands are tied till I ask my consultant and he says yes.
I know it all sounds backwards but if I don't research and ask I get no where..
It works better for me as I feel more in control of what I put into my body. Before I was not given a choice and if I said no I was told I was not helping myself and being negative..
This way I get to choose. Plus if it Doesn't agree with me I can change it.

These two I am researching now.. Thank you for your suggestion.. I like the salad picture by the way!! :)

How long have you been on Zyban and at what dose? Is it possible to raise the dose or are you already at the maximum? Also, have you considered the use of a "booster" medication (such as Abilify) to give your current med the extra push it may need? Your doctor should be helping you though, not the other way around.

I am taking two doses of Zyban at 150mg each. I have reached such a low point thought I would just change. I will ask. Thank you for your message.
Look after you!
