    Effexor, fantastic and fears

...taking it…have a feeling I may not have done sensible tapering…! Not sure I have much of value to add here but really just posting to say: SSRIs - and other groups of antidepressants - can be highly disruptive to sleep. I have a non-REM sleep disorder (night time hallucinations and night...

Totally Refractory - Anyone Else Find That Absolutely No Meds Help?!?

For 15 years I tried every SSRI and SNRI there was, including a couple that have since been removed from the market. Zero helped after the first couple of months and all had horrendous side effects. What actually helped me was doing actual trauma therapy. I went off meds pretty soon after I...

    Piecing things together

...However now I am aware that I have some form of an eating disorder, as well as behaviors consistent with OCD. I have made an appointment with my last therapist I really clicked with to help me address the OCD. I wish I tolerated SSRI medication better as that would help me rein in the OCD better.

...to them but can feel side effects pretty much right from the start. I gave it a long time to try several and finally decide I was done with SSRI's. That said, I am on a drug now, it has side effects most definitely and I have weaned off for quite awhile at one time (not an easy thing with...

How long have you been struggling / diagnosed with PTSD and what help have you gotten?

...old and was diagnosed at 53? Or, four years ago now. Close to 5, really. I've cut down on my meds some because my doses were making me paranoid.(SSRI's)No one even knows I'm PTSD except some close friends. The depression is what kicks my butt. I still work and that keeps me active but I can...

Sufferer Saying hello here - Long thought I had PTSD but just Dx’d last year.

...etc) So last year was the first time a psychiatrist ever spent real time to speak with me. My diagnosis was given as only PTSD. She mentioned SSRI's could help, but relayed to her that I knew they make me suicidal so luckily was not forced to take meds that harmed me like they did in the...

    Bipolar C-PTSD vs. Bipolar

Diagnosing comorbid disorders is incrediably difficult, as not only do symptoms overlap (like PTSD & Bipolar can look identical // are frequently misdiagnosed as each other // as panic attacks & disassociation -or depression- can look like bipolar manias & depression) but they ALSO effect one...

How long have you been struggling / diagnosed with PTSD and what help have you gotten?

I have probably had PTSD since age 11 (47 years) but the diagnosis is more like 12 years now. Lots of talk and a laundry list of ssri's for most of that time without a lot of change, but it set me up for being able to recognize my own symptoms and helped zero in on the effective treatments. I am...

Fibro The fun filled world of fibro

That's terrifying. I'm so glad you noticed the symptoms! I had forgotten that lamictal is one on a pretty long list of meds - including SSRI's - that can cause a condition Serotonin Syndrome. They are much more aware of these problems than even just a few years ago. Would be nice if they came up...

...Stimulant/upper type side effects. But again, I haven't experienced any of those. I experienced significant weight gain with brief use of an SSRI, but I haven't experienced that with this med. This medication should not be stopped suddenly, it should be tapered down. I did try to go off it...

How long have you been struggling / diagnosed with PTSD and what help have you gotten?

Diagnosed 7 years ago. When first diagnosed, had CBT for a few weeks and was on SSRI medication for 4 years. Have had long term therapy for the past three years and doing much much better. Have been in a long term relationship for 4 years and life has been so much more settled. I do still...

    Dreams in Trauma Locations

...It's been 4 years and I've seen a lot of improvement overall, but in the past few months it seems to have come back every night. I bet my SSRI medication, which can make some crazy vivid dreams, has an impact on this. But the underlying issue that is a big factor is that I have been really...

    Viibryd (vilazodone)

From what I have read about it it acts on the same mechanism as remeron/mirtazipine 5HT1a. So not a true SSRI and more like an antihistamine but unlike remeron doesn’t effect noradrenaline. Also has to be tapered down like Effexor because of withdrawal effects. I haven’t taken it though but did...

    Need support, maybe starting meds

Lamictal isn't an SSRI/SNRI - it's an anticonvulsant, and so it doesn't have any of the horrible side effects you get with traditional ADs. All ADs give me truly shitty side effects, but anticonvulsants have been pretty great. I liked Lamictal, but its main side effect is to give you a rash so...

    Need support, maybe starting meds

Hey, I had NO success with SSRI's or other older antidepressants; meanwhile lamictal has worked great for keeping my mood steady. (Well not THAT steady. But the best that I've gotten so far. Fewer side effects for me. It helps the swings and doesn't cause me the same side effects that I really...

Anyone else find their sleep greatly improved by taking an SSRI at bed-time?

...I also keep a detailed sleep log of all the different medicines (and the time I take them)... and I've found that the optimal time to take the SSRI (Zoloft) is at bed-time and greatly increases how long I stay asleep for... Currently I take 30mg Remeron and 50mg Zoloft at bed-time and I've...

I just started Zoloft and I just wondered did it help anyone??

Its been the best ssri for me and ive tried probably all of them. It almost completely did away with intrusive thoughts and flashbacks. Only thing it did otherwise was cause loss of interest in the desire for intimacy. But Id rather not have the former than the latter. 200mg once a day.
