I think that's absolutely appropriate. You want to have an idea of what a therapist thinks they can do to help you. I had to do a bunch of research on how c-ptsd should be treated before finding my new therapist. It's good information to have. What is this website you found?
@EveHarrington Wow this is fascinating! How long have you been doing it? Do you have C-PTSD, or PTSD, or because you're in the US you have PTSD? My therapist still diagnosed me with C-PTSD.
I think therapists are paid to be your friend. My therapist, including my old therapist, feel like friends to me. This new therapist is pretty professional, though, so far less so with her. Good question, though. I wonder what other people will say!
I've discovered that listen to music that I like really helps me change my mood or keeps me from having fear or intrusive thoughts. It's really helpful. My therapist put earphones on me during our last session, and played relaxing music while I did therapy, it's part of brainspotting. Anyway...
Welcome, @CopperDeer
I have just recently started using this forum and it is incredibly helpful to me. I hope you find more support and find some positive things here.
I emailed my new therapist and told her that I was feeling better either from using the resource spot, or from placebo, either way I was happy and she said this:
"I doubt you were feeling better because of a placebo effect. You found a resource spot and practiced using it and it worked because...
My new therapist helped me out today with brainspotting. It is pretty amazing or the placebo effect is amazing, either way, I don't feel terrified as much as I did this morning, which is super awesome, because now I am not being triggered into flashbacks. Phew! We also discovered that I have...
I'm okay. My therapist called about half an hour after I posted this. I was able to meet with her and we did some brainspotting. I was able to find a resource point, so now I have a way to calm down a little. It helps. I am still having the terrified feeling, but it's less intense.
I'm suicidal. My psychiatrist is weaning me off of klonopin, and for days I have felt terrified. It's triggering me and I can't control the flashbacks. I tried contacting both my psychiatrist and therapist but neither of them are answering me. It could be because it's only 7:30, but i feel so...
Telling myself that it's a memory continuously may work better than what I'm doing right now. Distraction often works, but not today. It's working now, but earlier it was too intense. Getting my mind to calm down when it's in flight or fight mode is next to impossible. I'm assuming that my...
I'm getting triggered by thinking about talking about my past with my new therapist. It's so scary to share the story with people after I was taught to fear other people knowing. Now, I have to share all these details again, with someone new, and think about trusting another person. Trust is...
I understand everything you just said. You are not alone. I freak out all the time over the smallest things. My son playing will make me feel like someone is going to attack because he yells randomly and that frightens me a lot. I'm constantly surveying the scene to make sure no one is there...
So seroquel is deffinately causing me tachycardia and orthostatic hypotension. Now we have to go down on it and I'm so nervous because it's the first thing that's helped lessen the intensity of flashbacks and helped me sleep. Anyone know of a med that can replace it that helps with flashbacks...
So I have these body memories that are super intense, and today they've been throwing me into flashbacks. I haven't been to the school at all, and my aunt is getting my son from school at 5 so that I can calm down. It's been non-stop all day long. I feel like my body is little again, and that...
Woohoo! Good work @littleoc ! I still have notes from my ex-girlfriend, she was not at all abusive, and I broke up with her because I'm a dumb *ss. Maybe I should give up on that relationship ever starting again....
