This is my latest piece of poetry/prose. Writing is my therapy, so please forgive me for inflicting this on you all. Just currently going through a tough time, and heightened anxiety and lack of sleep is wearing me down.
Twenty one years ago I was happy and carefree,
But early one summer...
Here are five things which keep churning through my head today:
1. I dont like feeling this awful, but what can I do?
2. I'm so desperate for a decent sleep, but how?
3. My neighbours have very kindly invited me to dinner at their place tonight. I accepted, but really dont feel like going.
4...
@Alibongo - no I live in a rural location outside of a very small town. There really is no support groups of that type around here. But you're right, it was a big shock, to suddenly lose that weekly support. Yes these Forums do help, but like you said, its not quite the same.
I am on...
Hi @Alibongo. I just wanted to say that I totally understand the way you feel about your therapy coming to an end.
I had been going through a long and exhausting period of therapy over the past 15 months up until last month. I went through CBT therapy followed by several blocks of Exposure...
Nice thread @trying2movefwd .
My mood .... Feeling agitated and triggered
Why .... Hubby away and I get afraid when home alone at night.
Sleep ....... None.
Appetite ...... With hubby away I dont have to prepare proper meals, so I tend to not eat much at all.
S/I thoughts .... Nope, not today...
Welcome to you AHerShyKiss, I see this was your first post. I loved your reply too. Like you, I also start to get frequent nightmares in the 2-3 weeks leading up an anniversary. I like the way you think of that though .... an alert system. Good thinking. I will try to think of it like that...
Wow, that is so good to know about melatonin increasing dreams and nightmares. I had somebody suggest I start taking Melatonin to help with sleep. But after hearing that, I dont think I'll risk it . I already have nightmares on a regular basis and dont fancy the thought of making them any...
Should I quit work, I am finding it all too much?
I need my little dog, what would I do without her?
I just cant continue to do this every day.
Do I go to bed early, knowing I wont be able to sleep?
I'm drunk, what do I do.
Thankyou Brae so much for your very thoughtful and helpful post. I really appreciate all that you have said here, and I hope I can learn from your experiences. Certainly at the moment we have a very 'reactive' relationship I think. Your wording on that is spot on. I think we need to work...
No we have not had any marriage counselling. Hubby sees a psychiatrist every couple of months, but has not undergone any other therapy for his PTSD. He is on medication however.
I do all I can to avoild his triggers, and I believe I am fairly patient with his moods, because I understand them...
Many thoughts of suicide, and plans in place for various easily accessible methods. But so far, no serious attempts. Just feel like I would like to. Hopefully it stays that way.
Definitely worse initially, as therapy was just awful, and very triggering.
But after about 6 months of Exposure Therapy the intensity of symptoms started to improve.
This year after 3 months of weekly then fortnightly EMDR, I feel that the emotional reaction is also starting to improve.
But I...
Yes definitely stp2012, this is all very normal for a PTSD survivor. Hard to accept, but still normal. And yes it sounds as though it is very much an exposure therapy exercise. If it helps ... its meant to get easier. ;)
I will give you a pat on the back too stp2012. Well done to you, you're doing great. Not an easy thing to do, and yet you have done it. And even more importantly, you will continue to do so.
Great news ladyghosthunter. I must admit that when my script ran out and I was refusing to go back to the Dr to get a new script, that my nightmares escalated badly again. But when I read info on Prazosin on the internet it does say that something like 90% of people find that once they stop...
Thankyou Joeylittle. I appreciate your input. I think he believes that I am just plain 'nutty', paranoid, irritable, etc. But that it couldnt possibly be ptsd, because my own symptoms are a little different to his. Perhaps he is a bit of a ptsd 'snob'? It could also be a case of by not...
Thankyou Silver. Unfortunately I am just not able to talk to him about it. I have tried in the past, but he just 'blows up' and refuses to talk. Its very hard.
My husband has PTSD as a result of his time in the Vietnam war. And I have PTSD as a result of a violent rape 20 years ago, before I met my husband.
We married 18 years ago, a couple of years after I was raped. But I was not diagnosed with PTSD until only a couple of years ago.
As you can...
