Harley - Welcome! I'm so glad you are here.
Every night before I go to bed, I listen to mp3 recording of the sound of rain that I found on itunes. They have ones for the sound of oceans and etc too. I also do deep breathing. I know, it might seem stupid to think that deep breathing can help. It can. It actually sends a signal the brain that kicks in the parasympathetic nervous system and that can help our minds and bodies feel better and relax. There is lots of information online about different ways to practice deep breathing. When feeling fear of the dark or PTSD symptoms, both you and our sufferer can try some of these techniques together.
One of the most important things a supporter can do is to seek support for their own struggles, not just for help for their sufferer. This is a really hard thing that takes some supporters (including myself) take DECADES to learn. Yet here you are, already, at age 15, reaching out for help not just for your sufferer, but for you too. Kudos to you for having the wisdom and courage to reach out!Talking about this is really hard for me, and id like too have some help. Well, I need help mostly for my very close friend who is a PTSD sufferer as I already said and is like to know how to deal with his anxiety and sadness mostly... Thank you :)
It doesn't seem crazy. There are lots of things people get scared of. Sometimes fears can be connected to trauma, sometimes not. There are a lot of things that help PTSD symptoms that can be used for other fears as well. Maybe you and your sufferer can learn about mindfulness or relaxation skills together.Well, I'm scared of the night. It might seem crazy, but I see shadows, I know it's stupid maybe they don't exist but it terrifies me almost every night, and when I'm not home sleeping with my... Teddy... I stay awake until sun rises... When shadows who want to take me are gone... :)
