I was put on Adderoll due to a daytime sleepiness disorder that resembles narcolepsy. I tried the XR but I could not sleep at night at all. I was prescribed 10 mg and it was increased to 15, then 20 mg at some point. (please keep in mind that my experience is over a 10 yr period as well). The Adderoll worked very well for me, but I did get agitated easier, and while I focused well on it, I do think I was possibly dissociative and can't recall during periods. I also took Celexa anti depressant and xanax for sleep, as well as Vicodin for pain. I became dependent on the xanax for sure. I am off Adderoll but still need xanax.
Over time, my dr tested me for Sjrogens due to extreme dry mouth and eyes which I don't have. I took breaks from meds but was depressed when I could not stay awake. My sleep cycle got so screwed up that I would not wake until 5 pm many days and I had to have someone give me the Adderoll in my sleep and then would pop up in about 30 minutes. After about a steady year of taking it, my decreased appetite caused me to get below 90 lbs. I didn't want to take it but this family member insisted because they knew I would sleep all day w/o it. Pain meds were increased and it became harder to sleep-I was up to 3 mg xanax for sleep and 20 mg adderoll to wake up. My body crashed. I can't remember much about a weeks period of time but was trying to wean off xanax and on tylenol pm. I was totally confused. I think I had other periods of time like this where the worst did not happen. Total dry mouth and eyes which can cause tooth decay...it did not for me but I was using tons of precautions. Psychiatrist told me Adderoll is Meth in a different form.
You do not have to take Adderoll everyday and it should be out of system relatively short period of time. I would just be very cautious when combining with other meds, particularly xanax. Also, xanax is a depressant, working against the anti depressant.
I went cold turkey off everything March 2016. I am in horrible pain, restless but poor sleep. After 4 months, went back on 1 mg xanax to sleep. I have adderoll and can take in emergency (3-4 times past year, and pain meds same) My dr was making my life most comfortable with this combination, but any trip to ER caused huge criticism of my physician. They blamed anything on my meds..ie. once I got dizzy and fell and they said it was my "cocktail".
In hindsight, I felt so revved up. I was so exhausted and it was false energy and I would do physical work that has wore me out but kept me functional. It was like that pill would wind me up. I had no withdraw symptoms getting off everything cold turkey, except not sleeping well. My T wants me to take Adderoll again due to poor functioning at this time-Cant get up and so am isolating causing worse depression.
Everyone is different. I think the combinations require great caution and awareness, often honest feedback from another as well.
