Advice On Meds And Nausea Please

Hi all, just a quick one. Last few days when I've taken my meds my usual nausea has been much worse to the point where I've been sick after each dose. I take mirtazapine, sertraline and pregabalin all together at night with extra pregabalin in the daytime if I need it for anxiety.

Since starting sertraline I've often felt a bit sick after taking it, but it's been manageable. I take a tablet and a half so I'm wondering if there's some coating on them to stop sickness, and that by breaking it I'm exposing the interior of the tablet? I'm now on day three of no meds, because I've reproduced them every time.

Tonight I've tried not taking the half one and its a bit better but I still have that horrible burning in my throat. Have emailed my psychiatrist but I know he is away so an answer might be a while coming. I also tried taking tabs with bread or milk to help it go down but that didn't help.

Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks.

If it's the sertraline that's making you sick, it might be best to stop taking it until you speak to your Doctor. At least you won't be sick, and so you will still be having the other 2 medications. I would think it's better to miss one medication, rather than all 3.

You could also take the sertraline in the morning, so if you are sick it doesn't interfere with your other tablets that you take at night. It's not a sedative, so you don't have to take it at night.

I don't think sertraline is specially coated. If the tablet has a break mark, then it should be safe to cut in half. Coated tablets generally don't have the ability to break in half, so it just sounds like the drug itself doesn't agree with you.

The sickness may settle down over time. It might be worth talking to the pharmacist if your Doctor isn't currently available.

I agree with the two that have already replied. Talk to your pharmacist. My pharmacist has refused to give me medications because they interacted with other medications I was already on, that the doctor was aware of but my doctor did not know there was a serious interaction. I think of them as a team, but they are only a team if you let them be.

You mention burning in your throat - does this feel more like a heartburn or reflux issue? Alternatively, do you think it's possible that you may have caught a tummy bug?

Zoloft (sertraline) certainly can cause nausea, but I'd be wondering about why you've started to vomit. I'd make an appointment to talk to your doctor about it.... if your psychiatrist isn't available, what about your GP?

Hi all, thanks for the replies. I crashed horribly, was right back into the distorted thinking and feelings of hopelessness, but i saw my EMDR guy and he helped me to realise that after 4 days of no meds I was probably in withdrawal. He gave me some good strategies and I managed to get meds down. I'm back on two of the meds I had come off as a temporary patch till things even out and I'm seeing the psychiatrist again in 1o days.

I now realise that over the last 4 weeks or so I have relapsed slightly. I've had a lot to deal with, and I lost my beloved dog to cancer, and started back at work part time after over six months off. I wasn't sleeping much and was isolating myself. Still, now I've spotted it I can get back into mindfulness, use cbt to challenge on my destructive thinking and continue my EMDR.

Thanks again for the helpful replies.

Hugs!

Sounds like you've got a lot going on at the moment. Hang in there, it will get better.

I was very ill on sertraline - caused acid reflux which has continued even now, nearly a year after stopping it...
