I started this thread so other Alaskans can find each other. It doesn't look like there is way to friend anyone so this is my next best bet.

I check this forum often and will do so for some time. i am hopeing to learn more about PTSD. Alaska certainly has it's uniqe challenges.

Hope to hear from you!

The reason I posted this here was to try to find friends who are suffering ptsd in Alaska. Talking about the area was to encourage othets to comment.

Welcome. I spent a little over a year up in Alaska not knowing anyone. That venture certainly had its share of challenges but the scenery and fishing was great :)

Hey, JD!
It is SO beautiful up there! My dad was a missionary pastor on Prince of Wales Island, and I was blessed to visit twice. Beauty beyond words to me. It was actually quite like a rain forest. I took long walks, and my mind would try to absorb the nature around. Got to see some deer, and black bears. They came out at sunset to raid the dump.

I do know that the lack of sunshine up there contributes to depression, as does the isolation that is found in much of Alaska. I would not have wanted to visit where it was extremely cold and snowy, or dark all the time. POW was isolated enough.

Alaska does have a huge rate of alcoholism, and suicide. I hope you are able to find support in real life, and here. Don't let the rules run you off, this is a good forum with lots of fine people, and many stories of success along with failures.

Hi BC and welcome. Color me ignorant but what does PSG stand for? *lol*

Kudos on all fronts Angel Keeper :)

I'm putting together a small outdoor activities group for those (in this state) that would like to participate. What better healing reprieve than that? :)

Sourdough here. I grew up in Glennallen, AK. I LOVE the bush, it is amazing the sense of comfort being surrounded by miles and miles of wilderness can bring. I am in Anchorage at the moment, but bounce around whenever I get a chance.

Welcome Molly. I'm in Washington state yet spent almost 2 years up in Alaska. I love scenery and getting back to basics yet (for myself), being too isolated for an extended amount of time without balancing some change of pace, is isolating in a counter-productive way. It's fishing and camping season here in Washington. We've got a (mostly women) budding outdoor group for people with or without ptsd. People who prefer scenery over drama. It's for those wanting to be one with nature and peaceful people in cohesive settings.
