I have been having ALOT of trouble sleeping lately. In the last two nights I have managed some significant sleep (8 hours -- WOO HOO!!!! and 8 hours in five and three hour bits HURRAH!!)

What I did was to talk my "inner children" into going to sleep. I have trouble sleeping because the "voices" in my head just keep going and going and going and going.... thinking thinking thinking, rehashing criticizing... it is enough to drive me crazy. So... I asked the younger me's I've gotten into contact with in therapy what is going on with them - acknowledged and tried to address/be re-assuring about those concerns, and then tried to get them to settle down to sleep. Easy with the youngest, tougher with the teenager. But... it worked - they went to sleep and AH so did I.

Hadn't heard of anyone doing this before and it is only N of two so it might just be a fluke, but wanted to let everyone know in case it is a "real thing."

Yep, I was taught to talk to my inner children when in distress or agitated in order to calm down. I learned this at Intensive Trauma Therapy. I believe it is a part of inter family systems therapy.
