Anyone Else Hate A Dark House

I don't like a dark house. I lived in a creepy 3 storey victorian house with creaky floorboards and lots of nooks and crannies (UK) as a child. I hated it.

I don't have PTSD and I sleep with a light on. I don't see any issue with it. Tell them to get a grip and close their doors if the light is annoying. People go on about the littlest things sometimes yet overlook major ones. We recently kept our lights on for a few days to shine the way home for our fallen diggers. Keep them shining and comfort those in need.

I always leave the bathroom light on when hubby is in down mode. Not only does it help him to see the way without stumbling, it gives him a sense on not being alone in the middle of the night.

I like the dark, so long as I'm not alone.

Same here. If I am alone in dark room. I get vivid thoughts. I keep thinking what if some thing enters in my room. what if something happens and I get death. Too scary. I need someone to stay in dark, otherwise I would start panicking.

I'm the opposite. I like to keep the lights in my place off as much as possible. I feel I know the layout better than anyone else would and that my familiarity actually gives ME the safety edge.

I am usually fine in the dark. I'm usually on my computer, so there is light there. Sometimes my eyes are sensitive to light, so sitting in a dim house helps.

I do prefer a light on outside. Some reason I think it will keep people away. We live in a rural area with no street lights. My husband usually turns it off, but I've never asked him to leave it on either. I can handle going into the dark when it is on the first or second floor, but not in the basement. I also do not like to come home to a dark house. I prefer that we leave some sort of light on inside.

People should respect your wishes/issues, especially family. I'm sorry they aren't doing that.

You might consider some of the inexpensive solar lights. Placed out away from the house. It gives contrast and prevents a campfire type inability to see outside the immediate area. In a rural area a small amount of light would be beneficial.

When I lived alone, I hated turning out the lights on my way to bed. I simply couldn't stand the darkness behind me (as if something was going come get me from the darkness).

I set a light timer - the ones used to make it look like someone is home, when you aren't. I set it to turn the lights off after I had gone to sleep, usually about an hour after my usual bedtime.
