News Anyone Involved In The Occupy Wallstreet? Or Another City?

I have been watching this for awhile now, still do. Anonops is a good source for news like this that you might miss in other places while you are keeping tabs on other places. So much has happened in the past 3 months that it is amazing how many people don't realize the full scope of what's going on until you see it on the livestreams and other sources. Other countries might be protesting in different ways but the message is the same, however unspecific supporters of the current in place system say they are.

It does not bode well that a person in this country no longer feels that they can protest without the possibility of being assaulted by pepper spray, tear gas, bean bags and rubber bullets. Or being detained, zip-tied and sat on the road for 6 hours, run over by one of their bikes or whatever.

I have been doing a lot online for the protests. Hubby doesn't think it would be good for me to get arrested, (he says if I went I would probably be right up front and stand my ground, so I'd be arrested) and I agree. The thought of being cuffed freaks me out a bit too much.

So, I have been helping get the live-stream videos out to the public and spreading the word. Making sure people have contact information if they need/want it. That sort of stuff. There really is a lot you can do to help from home. I would say the number one thing you can do to help the movement is educate yourself so when it is time to cast your vote (etc) you are informed, you have made your own decisions, you can be proud of yourself.

I've been involved in the Occupy with my city from the get go, actually - September. How has it been that long?

The cops have scared me a bit - I've had bad dealings with cops in the past, but it's mostly been ok. I come off as small and harmless, especially now that I'm on crutches. I got knocked down during our eviction and I hurt myself fairly badly. I'm still planning on teaching some history classes and stuff over the winter, though.

It's been awesome in some aspects. I finally pulled myself back into the world. I feel like I'm finally contributing to the world and helping people and I'm connecting with people. I have new friends and all of that, it's awesome.

Sometimes, though, it's overwhelming. Even post-eviction, it's a constant go go go go go. It's constant people, it's constant action and I have trouble coping. I still think it's absolutely worth it. We're doing good in the world and this is an amazing thing to be part of.

Do you all see this turning more toward the politics as the election grows near?

Do you think there should be more of a "leadership" for the movement (either a person or group)?

Personally I think the only logical thing to do is move into politics. The best way to get things changed would be to get good people into Congress and the White House. God knows we don't have a decent presidential candidate out there in front of the cameras now.

(I do not want to upset anyone. So I am fine if no one wants to discuss the politics too much. Just curious.)

I don't think getting into a political party would be a good idea. I've been reading and talking to (mostly former) Tea Party activists, and they all warn about what happens when a party hijacks a movement. I guess that's a personal opinion, though, and very political.
