Sometimes referred to as All Fools' Day, April 1 is not a national holiday, but is widely recognized and celebrated as a day when many people play all kinds of jokes and foolishness. The day is marked by the commission of good-humoured or otherwise funny jokes, hoaxes, and other practical jokes of varying sophistication on friends, family members, teachers, neighbors, work associates, etc. Source Wikipedia

What I didn't know was this and don't know if it's true:

April Fools' Day is celebrated in different countries on April 1 every year except leap years.

As for as long as I remember we have celebrated it every year with our tradition being pranks only till noon.

Anyway, "a pinch and a punch for the 1st of the month". ;)

Do you play practical jokes on April Fool's Day and what are your traditions?

Like I said Venusian... we have never excluded leap years from where I come from but I found it out in Wikipedia.

What's the difference and why the exclusion?

April 1 was once celebrated as the New Year, that changed when the Gregorian calendar was adopted in 1582. Those who still followed the old calendar were ridiculed when they celebrated the New Year as was their custom. Every fourth year, leap years, the extra day in February confused the nobility to the actual date of the now false celebration. To prevent themselves from looking foolish by ridiculing someone else having a party on a perfectly valid day, it was decreed that ridicule be suspended for that year.

Who ever invented this pseudo-holiday ... well if I weren't a decent person I'd say what I wished for them if they were still living :cautious: Everyday seems to be fool's day. There should be a "Non-Fool's" day where it is illegal to be an idiot for a full 24 hours or get arrested and fined. That should help out all our governments, and they wouldn't have to raise taxes just because that one day should cover the same as whatever a tax increase would bring in. $$$

Love the picture Loloma. I have one of those masks packed away somewhere (Anthony say's we don't have room for it ) but its not as beautiful as your picture.
