People just don't have time any more.

Interesting you say that actually, as I was talking with a guy after dancing this week, who is rarely there because he says he struggles to make it with his wife, as he has too much going on with work.

Unfortunately Nicolette and his wife walked downstairs and out the door just as I was about to give my response, thus breaking us off and going home; which would have been something like: "on one hand you can define importance as your work and use that to excuse not doing relaxing activities for yourself, and with your wife, OR, you can make the time so that one or two nights a week, you relax, you spend social time with your wife and not worrying about work, which then puts you in a better frame of mind for work, as well as enhances your relationship weekly."

I am hoping he attends again soon, so I can get that out to him... he is such a nice bloke and obviously works way too much, giving himself such little downtime.

That's why tonight is "Us" night with no computers, phones or iPads....looking forward to it :D

I love our dancing nights...it makes it feel like we have a sense of good, fun times together rather than just going through the weeks.

I think it's more that the learning curve of our technology is a bit much right now for most people. You hear things like ' you can't get tone from the written word' which, if you've read much, you know isn't true. Tone is completely communicable through pure text.

But I agree that people need to take time to unplug as well. The thing that really gets me is the texting and surfing on the phones. I remember having my brothers over and we'd be chatting then suddenly they'd be typing on their phones. I KNOW they can't converse and do that at the same time. And I've been known to yell at people for taking calls on their phones and not excusing themselves from the table or whatever so a whole group discussion has to stop for their phone call.

To address the question - I think we're getting smarter and less mannerly.
