Are You A Non-Conformist?

I like to make choices that are different from everyone else. Sometimes I really feel different and sometimes I do it just to be different. I don't want to look like anyone else and I don't want to dress like anyone else.

Bonne,

I am a non-conformist also. My mother had MS and sat silently in a chair and my father was a drunk who beat us. So I never got parented like normal kids so I never got programmed to be normal. I'm glad. I took every parenting class that I could because I didn't know how to be a parent. I have to read books on how to be in relationships. I don't know how to be normal and to conform. I don't make an effort or go out of my way to be different. I just accept the fact that I am different.
Normal is just a cycle on your washing machine. Link Removed There is no normal. Why bother trying to conform?

Hi Gloria

Thanks! I think it is my way of expressing on the outside what's going on in the inside. And I definitely don't feel normal on the inside or feel like I fit it anywhere. And I am aware of it.

Dear BC,

I can so relate! In the past, I would not put on my makeup or try to look good because that was how I was feeling inside but I have come to realize that by looking better I also feel better. I did a comparison of what I looked with and without makeup. I need to wear makeup or I might frighten little children! LOL! I think you and I are very similar. My closet is full of nice outfits and I dress in an ethnic theme. I have an African American outfit (I'm Norwegian but love the African American culture), an Egyptian themed outfit, Oriental silk dress outfit, etc. I have all the earrings and accessories to match. I wear them to suit my mood. I think you and I are alike because I like to express the different sides of my personality and my interests.

Being a non-conformist and an individual is one thing.

But heading out to the supermarket wearing nothing but a sombrero and a set of knee pads is not going to do you or anyone else any favours.

I’m all for bucking the trend, but there has to be some consideration of good taste as well.

Plus, there are hygiene issues to consider when you’re shopping for groceries.

Just something to think about.

I beg to differ--it depends on who is sporting the sombrero and knee pads...do they do favors too?! :D Though I would say that a shower and deodorant is a must before going out to the store like that.

A Joke-
One woman says to another "So what are your beliefs?"
The other says "Oh, I don't subscribe to any lables"
The first woman says "Oh, yeh, I've heard of you people!"

IMO,Conforming is not always a bad thing. If it is a healthy and realistic outlook I agree with it. YOU decide who YOU are. No one else. People who egsuast themselves trying to prove how unique they are are fooling themselves, because they are desperatly trying to be noticed as special. The truth is we are all special and there is room for us all. No one needs to be greater than someone else. If people spent more time on quietly discovering themselves and less time competing for glory we would have a very different world.

I might just have a comment .............hard to believe i know,
All my life i have (stood out in a crowd) when my friends try to decide what to do for fun most will reply what would Mark do???

Different is good different is also one of my key defense mechanisms If all else fails most folks will keep their distance. unless invited in

No, I am not a nonconformist. Definition, outside of church use for now society: "One who does not conform to, or refuses to be bound by, accepted beliefs, customs, or practices."

I think for myself, though I do not go against something just to be different. That is called being difficult in my book. It is like people who come here and believe they do not need to follow this communities rules, instead they choose to be different by being difficult. The only thing that lands them is usually upset, angry and disappointed after they are banned.

I like to think of myself as someone who thinks for himself and takes in what information is at hand and uses that to make the best decision for me at the time.

I am an individual and I do it well where it is appropriate.
