So I've been on cymbalta for about e years. But it's starting not to work. So my dr prescribed celexa with the cymbalta. I have been nervous to take both. But I did this morning and it made me sick. I was throwing up and shaking. And I just felt horrible most of the day :(

Don't take anymore celexa if you are getting sick. There is a dangerous, major reaction between celexa and cymbalta, and you must be under a doctor's constant supervision when taking both. I have a lot of experience with cymbalta, since I have been on it since 2008. Withdrawal from it is horrible, and that is an understatement. If you need to wean yourself off of cymbalta, do so by pulling the capsule apart and counting out the little blue pellets inside, gradually decreasing them by about 10 per week. After you are sufficiently weaned, then go on the celexa. Your doctor must be a moron..

I know that sounded like a little bit of a rant, but these so-called doctors really piss me off. They think the solution for everything is to simply throw pills at us, and they often give us dangerous combinations of meds. I'm just glad you are okay. I hope you feel better soon.

I told her that I read there is a reaction with them. But she assured me it would be ok. But no it wasnt! I was so sick. And my husband called her and she said not to take the celexa because it was giving me too much serotonin. I was like well yeah...that's what I was worried about. And I've heard coming of cymbalta is a nightmare :(

Doctors killed two of my family members because of negligence--one was my father. Trust me, get a second opinion, or do some research if they start prescribing combinations of meds. It may save your life.

I'm so sorry to hear that! I Google everything. And I read that it had an interaction. So before I took it, I went back and talked to her. But she seemed like everything would be fine. I have just felt so off today :(

Suggest Wellbutrin (buproprion) to your doctor. I'm only bringing it up because it was my adjunct for cymbalta and they worked well together (for me).

Cymbalta seemed to officially quit working for me after nearly 5 years, though, and I upgraded to Effexor. For what it's worth, I had absolutely none of the big withdrawal symptoms - the brain zaps that can be so debilitating. I know I'm the minority statistic there, but if it helps to know one person who didn't get hit by them, well, here I am.

Your doctor is indeed a moron. Are they a psych or a GP?

Thank goodness you had the intelligence to stop, or you could be toe-tagged in a morgue right now. You will feel better once the celexa leaves your system. Those two meds together will overload your brain.

Do you think it's still working for you? I know that there has been some research suggesting that it radically decreases in efficacy after 5/6 years, which of course they've only recently figured out since no-one studies that stuff until the patents expire (generally)...I'm not meaning to hijack the thread, just curious if you think it's still active for you. It was such a great drug for me when I started on it, and eventually it just ... wasn't.

It still works for me fine. I was on Desipramine for social anxiety for 12 years, and it finally turned against me, so I can understand what it feels like. So far so good for the cymbalta, though. I hope I never have to go off of it, because I hate the withdrawal.
