People without ptsd (or other mental health stuffs) are guilty of cognitive distortions too. It's a rather odd feeling to help a loved one through their anxiety by practicing what I've been taught.
I found myself helping more than I ever thought possible. "Do you really know that? It could have nothing to do with you. It's understandable to have anxiety considering that you've been burned in the past but, this isn't the past anymore. He said that, doesn't mean you're on the chopping block. Even if you are, look at the worse case scenario. It's doable. Left over anxiety is normal after working through the possibilities. What would you do if it were a normal day? Let's do that and see how you feel later."
By bedtime he was calmer. We felt closer. He's been with me through my journey and I consider it an honor to go through his with him. It's the next day and I think I did good and that feels good.
