Changing Name & Social Security Number

I'm wondering if anyone here has insights on legally changing their name and Social Security Number for safety reasons. In my state the name change part seems fairly easy, and you don't need quite so much evidence for keeping it unpublished in the papers. You just have to go before a judge. The social security number seems more difficult as you need to supply evidence. Having never reported anything (much goes back years) I only have a few more recent voicemails to present, and probably a few letters of support. If anyone has done this I'd love to know how it went.

Thanks!

I'm in the process of it... And it's a major pain in the ass. Proving the stalking isn't the hard part on my end (( I never reported either per se, but the logs are more than enough. It's roughly 400k to prove tech stalking in court, and the police don't have those kind of man hours for a 'domestic squabble'. Upside to that is that the SSA seems to also be on board with a list of things that have been done to harass me via my SSN.))

The pain part is that it completely wipes your employment & education history when you change your SSN. I have both military time served & college credits I need to essentially back up proof of by the dozen. Can't simply just reference your old SSN.

For this reason, most people choose not to change their SSN / name change is enough. My exHusband specifically uses my SSN to screw with me, so I'm stuck with needing it altered.

Thanks for your reply. Luckily I own my own business and finished college and grad school so I'm not too worried about the wipe. Much more worried about people finding me based on my SSN.

I think that if you need to change your SSN to feel safe, then by all means do it. The other things may be a PITA to work around, but in the end, your safety is paramount. I don't have any advice because I haven't changed mine nor do I need to, but wanted to give you some encouragement.
