That makes some sense. And, if someone really NEEDS you, I suppose it could feel safer, because how could they leave? Kind of an attempt to control the situation? I honestly sounds like he's got a lot of work to do before he really gets to where he can have a "normal" relationship. I hope he sticks with it. Meanwhile, don't lose sight of looking out for yourself because he may or may not get there.
