Hmmm.... I see this headline in HUGE letters on CNN.com. It is a bit triggering for me. I feel like packing or checking my seabag to make sure I have everything ready to deploy again. Then my logical part of my mind kicks in and reminds me, I'm not in the service anymore. Then, my irrational side kicks in "O.K., I'm not in the service anymore, but I HAVE to be on alert for terrorists still". Then to make it more interesting, my illogical part of my mind starts to run scenarios through my mind of the places I'm likely to go to in the next few days. What to do if the train gets derailed and explodes as it goes through town. What to do if any of the local industries blow up, etc...

I've decided, to avoid any/all of the online news for the next few days as best I can. I've even changed my homepage from CNN to something not news related so when I open my browser, I don't see the triggers.

I'm having difficulty not flashing back to all the times in the past when the shit hit the fan, and the command I was in was jumping though it's ass to attack a new target (on cruise), be deployed (next in line to deploy) or heighten it's security to ward off a terrorist attack (shore duty, or between cruises).

Anybody else go through this when certain headlines appear?

In the civilian world your reaction is called paranoia. In the military it's known as training. And, you got to see how that training could keep you alive.

You may be living in a civilian world, but you're still a warrior. That will never change. So my Brother, every time some crazy bastard starts rattling his sword you're going to go to full alert.

That means when the civilians are closing the blinds and turning out the lights, you're going to be checking the perimeter. Now, that may be your back yard fence, but it's still a perimeter.

I made up my mind long ago that I refuse to be a sheep in a world full of wolves. But, even a wolf can find ways to relax. Don't forget to keep looking for those ways.

I say close all the embassies in every country, cut off all the aid going out of this country, close the borders and spend the money here. The world's a mess, let somebody else work on it for a change. We spend billions, with a B overseas to 'help' others that will eventually spit on us. Not to mention that those countries aren't worth the life of any man or woman in the service today.

All this news stuff does is get everyone excited about things we can't really do anything about. I say if a country f*cks with us, nuke 'em. It will give the next one a little food for thought. Sorry, really bad mood today. Not sorry, just my opinion, as always.

And a good one, Jar. My wife and I used to argue the same thing. I wanted to cut them off and she wanted us to continue giving billions in aid that only the country's rich benefited from. The poor never gets our aid unless someone is on the back of the truck, handing it to them.

We're basically paying for friends that really aren't friends to keep them from attacking us, or worse, have them all convert to Islam and then we're up shit creek. THAT was her best point, that they all would, under growing populations in other countries, convert so many that they had strength in numbers.

I personally think that all the terrorist cells necessary to meet all their needs are already in this country. I think they brought their nasty weapons and that they are just waiting for the signal from their leader. Our border with Mexico is wide open. Our border with Canada is non-existant. All they have to do is wait for dark and walk in.

I've had to cut way back on my viewing news. It just gets me mad and not being able to do anything about it upsets me even more.

Repeat every hour...it don't mean nothin', baby steps, don't ever give up...

We're talking about a world where Dragons and Beasts of all kinds are born. They wait for a reason to react, and the reactions are brutal and savage. Sooooooo, Taliban, Al-Qaeda or whatever you call yourselves in the really crazy parts of this world, if you're looking for someone to move you along to those seventy virgins that you're stupid enough to believe are waiting, there are plenty of Dragons / Beasts to send you on your way.

But, isn't it unfortunate that we haven't found a better way? I guess I could do my part by setting my Dragon aside and trusting this world that includes terrorists, gansters, rapists, drug dealers, murders and the even bigger bastards in pin-striped suits.

HHHHHHMMMMMM. Nope, the Dragon stays. I just wish I could teach the old bastard to fish and play golf.

You know, China once closed all it's borders to trade and immigration, even refugee's, then when they eventually reopened, they were a world power.

That is a damn good point, Jimmy. How fast would our nations recover the prosperous days of domestic heavy manufacturing. How fast would the "mom and pop" places start opening up again? When you have to buy British, Australian, or American goods, how fast would we recover economically.

I once saw a story about the last Harley Davidson Dealer/Mechanic in Cuba. His country had trade sanctions and he couldn't get parts...hadn't for many years. So how'd he stay in business? He made his own damn parts. I thought that a bit far fetched, considering the close tolerances needed to keep an engine going...until I saw the movie "Indian".

The Australian motorcyclist, custom made his own Indian engine parts, striving to develop those last few horsepower more needed to set a record at the Salt Flats.

Should we adopt strict trade sanctions, for ourselves, it would hurt at first, but I think our nations would recover in only a few years.

If you actually read into the whole thing, you'll understand the reason the closures. (History indicates it + current intel)

It's strictly a defensive tactic, but personally, I would report as is, and move stronger units into the embassy's and wait. Offensive move, check.

More than 7.62 and 5.56. Break out .50's, MK19's, and 203's and add in some air support. I'm sick of seeing this pussy footing bullshit.

Whether you like or hate the N.Koreans you have to admire their attitude. They test nukes, they fire missiles, they pretty much strut their stuff. Say what you want, I don't see us or anyone going in there to stop them.

Honestly, I am so desensitized to the alarmist horseshit the George W. Beast administration fed us for all those years I ignore what the mass media reports on it. Fear is big business. If the crazy bastards were a real threat to me personally, well that is different. (Example: a threat/attack against STRATCOM which is literally a 12 minute walk from my neighborhood)

I think what makes me suffer most from these threat alerts is the reaction of the ignorant, non-military, non-veteran flatlanders in my area. They cause more problems and create a far bigger threat than some hajies talking shit about our embassy in yet another shithole.

Personally, I think this recent stuff is all overreaction because of the Bengazi f*ck up a while back.
