DBS (Deep Brain Stimulation) for PTSD and Depression

Hi, has anyone had DBS (Deep Brain Stimulation) for their PTSD and/or Depression.

I had no idea that DBS was indicated for PTSD. I had only heard of it being used in the treatment of tremors (Parkinsonian or otherwise).

So I've just learnt something, thanks for that :)

It seems back in 2018, DBS treatment for PTSD was in the preliminary phases. I wonder how much further along the area is now?

It's still pretty new. But it's been done for treatment resistant depression for around 18 years now. It's still mostly clinical trials

And quite small clinical trials I think - one clinical trial that I read had only 6 participants with treatment resistant depression, and of those, only 4 had improvement with DBS (which is only marginally better than placebo).

I wasn't aware that it was being used for ptsd either (learned something new!).

Given it requires brain surgery, I think I'd like to see more research!

My information is mostly from the internet and reading clinical trials. If you Google DBS for PTSD or treatment resistant depression studies and presentations come up. Dr. Helen Mayberg presents on it in multiple venues and is very informative.
