Difficulty doing meditation and relaxation

Hi Hashi

I am sorry to hear that you have lost your way.

Research shows that anxiety is directly correlated with confidence. If you do not feel confident in doing something it will cause anxiety. By what I have read it appears you are anxious about your ability to reach deep relaxation, this causes anxiety, could be somatic or cognitive or both, and therefore you find it harder to relax.

(cognitive anxiety is defined by Morris et al 1981 as the cognitive elements of anxiety such as negative expectations and concerns about oneself, the situation at hand and the possible consequenses. Somatic anxiety was defined as indications of autonomic arousal and unpleasant feeling states such as nervousness and tension) :)

Do you see a negative cycle occurring?

One way of calming your anxiety is to take a step back and finding a way of relaxation by an easier method at first. Use your tapes again. This is not regression at all in my view.

You want to relax, what does it matter what method you use to get there? Don't focus on the finger whilst pointing at the moon :)

Once you find it easier to relax again you can then start gradually meditating and learning to relax using thoughts (or rather lack of them), to empty your mind and make it still. :)

I often revert back to this page when I loose my way a bit. Refocusing on calm and quiet when my mind starts to wander. It gets easier and quicker each time. :)

I hope this helps a bit.

Best wishes
Saffy :)
