Poll Do You Have Pets / Animal Companions?

I just got a guinea pig today!!! He is a 2-year-old tri-colored Abyssinian, with a white nose, black head, brown middle, and black butt. He's adorable :)

He was advertised on craigslist...his owner just didn't have time for him anymore. He is very friendly, potty trained, and came with everything! which certainly makes getting a new pet much easier. Anyway, I drove over 250 miles each way to get him (not much around here unless you want to buy from a chain petstore), and am actually kind of proud of myself because I was sort of scared to drive that far alone...been a while since I did that. But I did it today, and now he has a new home :)

Of course I want to play with him, so the hard part is leaving him alone to settle in to being somewhere else after leaving his home and a 4-hour ride in my truck (which I know had to be very scary for him).

My dog is my reason for everything I do. I got a window air conditioner to keep the house cool for him in the summer when I have to go out. I can't be away from the house for more than 8 hours at a time because I need to let my dog out. I don't believe in house training a dog and then leaving him for endless hours. He's a big dog so he is rarely invited to a social gathering with me. He's my security alarm system, keeps strangers at bay, keeps me amused with his antics and is always ready for a game of fetch.

I have two Rat terriers. I love them to pieces.

At times though, when I'm not doing so well, I find it's really difficult to have to be responsible for them. Like having to walk them or get them exercise. Having to be out in public to do that can really get to me at times because I don't have a yard for them to play in.
