This is something that I was not aware of, and learned about through therapy. I find that I struggle with black and white thinking with my personal achievements, I feel that if I do not do something perfectly that I am a total failure. It is something that I am constantly working on.

That is something I was not aware of in myself until recently. My T told me I saw everything in black or white. No in between
That was a few weeks ago and I have thought a lot about it. I am starting to see that I am like this with myself Not others though
Just me.

Yes! I am forever trying to carve the world up into 'good' and 'bad.' Also I'm a bit perfectionist and hard on myself. I'm starting to appreciate more subtleties in people's intentions, actions, and feelings, but still a long way to go!

Hello, I was pretty fixated on that as well until I realized there are a thousand shades of grey in between.

It's hard when you feel emotional, like angry or irritated, to be objective and say "there has to be more to this story" or "that's a stereotype" or "that might not be true".

I want to vent, to release, sometimes to punish stupidity and call people out on things I think they mean or events I am interpreting, that are not really that way. So when I hear something, I think "that's bad!" "that's stupid!" "they have bad intentions!" etc., when often this is overreacting.

I think it's funny how the posted question about black and white thinking only has two (black and white) answer choices associated with it: "Yes" or "No". LOL I would have made the choices "All of the time" "Most of the time" "Sometimes" "Seldom" and "Never".

I guess I would have to say "yes" because sometimes, or most of the time, I suffer from it.

I've known that I walk life and see things in black and white for awhile now. Interestingly enought, I had converstation with my father and brother about how I can only see black and white, and how I can't understand the greyish part. While fundamentally I understand the concept of the grey area, in practice I cannot. I always attributed this behaviour as a personality molded from my perfectionist attitude. I've become so exhausted and discourage because 99.99% of life falls in the grey area.

I am with AdamAnt that I think in color. I think you need special glasses Junebug! LOL!

Of course he and I are both carers, so maybe that explains it.

Jawn

Sure you can borrow my glasses, but I'm not sure they will help you see or think any better! HA!

Oh wait......did you really want a pair of carers in AdamAnt and I?
