I don't know, JMH, it's pretty scary.

All I can say is that I will vote for Hillary no problem.

Has she been vetted? Oh yeah, probably more than any other candidate in American political history.

Is she qualified? Definitely.

Do I want to sit down and have a beer with her? Not really, but that's not the question. I don't need a president I feel I can sit and have a beer with. I need a president who can do the job and make things a little better for all of us. She is totally qualified to be our president and, thanks to Bernie, she is more liberal than she's ever been, and that's what matters.

Oh, and she's not Trump. That matters most of all.

I get a little annoyed with so many people who tell me a vote for Johnson is a vote for Hillary like it's a bad thing. First of all, no, I vote for who I vote for, the end. Second of all, I'm ok with direct or indirect votes for Hillary. :)

OMG, I wish you hadn't said that! Eeks! Actually, I wish I'd never brought up the image! I think it never entered my consciousness that anyone would even consider having a beer with Trump!

Now, Obama? I would definitely like to sit down with him and have a beer. JMO. I think he's a cool cat, personally. I also don't think he has to worry about his legacy. He inherited a ton of crap (thank you, W. Actually, thank you, Ralph) and he's been doing the best with it that I think anyone could. We've long needed an adult in the White House and he is definitely that.

Polls can/do have errors. Me thinks this one does coupled with SHODDY writing. For shame NYT, we expect better.

@hodge - A beer with Obama would be fun! I met Michelle once for a very brief second, and I was super impressed with how much she hugged people and was so personable.

Trump's wife? I would want to ask her if she is ok, like really...

@EveHarrington - good point. I have googled around and found a few more polls that were not so close. As for the NYT poll, I think they used deadlocked because the 2 points are within the statistical margin it error for the poll. But you are right, deadlocked isn't the best word.

NYT should be much more precise!

Trump was down by a good 12-16 points two weeks ago, so it's discouraging to see his numbers rise anywhere. :(

I don't remember him being that down a couple weeks ago, but I take your word for it. I just have seen that he's gone down in the last week. I think if he keeps being himself he will go down again. At least, God help us he will.

Bernie is probably the only one this time who I could imagine having a beer with. For people who actually became 'resident, I think Carter is probably the only one within my lifetime who I could imagine having a beer with. The big 0 gives me the creeps, as do the Bushes and slick Willy, Nixon was a crook and Johnson a fascist, Reagan was cuckoo.
OK fair enough Nixon normalised relations with China and Reagan with the Soviets.

We really are at a difficult time, I really cannot stomach either of the mainstream American candidates. Trump is dangerous because he's a narc and all we can predict about him is he'll act like a narc.

Hitlery - IMO she's bought and paid for by wallstreet and the war party (see my prev links to payments for her speaking engagements for examples of that). I really don't want to see more examples of Syria and Libya from her, anywhere. I've worked in a country devastated by a proxy war (Angola), I don't want to see more.

It's probably notable that the new Icelandic Prime Minister was not a politician, and only ran when he saw what the alternatives were

When the Italian christian democrats (who had never been out of government since the end of WWII), finally disintegrated in a massive corruption scandal in the early 1990s

A businessman put together a populist (and pretty damned libertarian as well!) party out of a coalition of people from accross the spectrum, who were not tainted by corruption.

The Italian socialists hated him (they had thought that their time had come - and thought of Berlusconi as taking away from them what they felt entitled to)

Love the guy or hate him, he didn't start any wars, and while he didn't manage to pull Italy out of the crap, he didn't push the Italian population any deeper into it either (personal opinion, Italy needs to break up into regions again, it's not fixable as a whole, central gubbermint and the EU only enable the dysfunction).

I'm glad that I finally have clarification.

It's not "bashing" that is the problem here, that is, bashing is ok.

It's "Trump bashing" that is unwanted.

Hillary bashing is welcomed, encouraged, and embraced.

I wish this point had been made clear and not just hidden behind an "all bashing is bad" sort of mantra.

It really does flip things upside down, make you see where people really stand, and so on.

I say this all in light of the fact that my tongue in cheek JOKE about Trump bashing lead to chastising me while nothing has been said to anyone else about the bashing they've been doing.

How am I NOT supposed to take that personally when it wasn't called out until page 22, I was the only one called out, and yet the bashing continues, unchecked?

Seriously, this isn't a thread I want to be associated with anymore. Can't levy the rules equally across all? No thanks, not for me.
