Hmm, so what is Trump going to do about the fact that Melania's speech plagiarized portions of Michelle Obama's speech from the 2008 Democratic Convention? (Side-by-side videos are available on the CNN website.) I think the guilty speechwriter (who I very much doubt was Melania herself, despite what she told Matt Lauer) needs to be held accountable and fired. If his campaign could commit an enormous blunder like this, what other kinds of things would his administration do?

Trump had to know the media would run away with lifting Michelle Obama's speech.

Truth is not exactly Trump's is forte, but my goodness... it's a Republican convention, of all the people to plagiarize, the Democrat First Lady? And the part about honesty and integrity?

This by Trump doesn't seem to affect his image as a truth teller amoung Trumpsters (Trump supporters) at all.

How many ways can someone sabatoge their candidacy and yet still be so popular?

I doubt Miliana wrote it as well. She has so deeply shied away from the political limelight and not done any speaking events before. The first one ends up being this big of a flop... ugh. I feel bad for her. And our country.

I'm honestly trying to avoid listening to much of the coverage. It won't change my mind about anything. (I could hardly like him any less or find him any more alarming.) But, what I don't understand....... Everything I've heard has been an unrelenting litany of how bad things are. On and on and on about what an awful place the world is and it's all the fault of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Fine if you believe that. But, the only thing offered in the way of solutions is "Donald Trump"? Is there actually any kind of plan? Does he really think that all he has to do is want something to happen and it's done and exactly as he wanted? And are people really willing to accept that? (Apparently some of them are.) The last time I remember the US taking a direction without a plan, we invaded Iraq. And people are willing to accept "Just trust me" AGAIN? Already? How is that possible?????????

Trump delegates have threatened a Cruz delegate. They either told her she should die or that they would kill her.

I'm not surprised. This was happening at the state level too.

The nation appears to have been Rickrolled.

Melania's speech didn't just copy Michelle Obama, but also Rick Astley.

"In a development almost too bizarre for words, Twitter users have picked up on the fact that Melania Trump’s speech included the phrase “He will never, ever give up. And most importantly, he will never, ever let you down.” This is a rather blatant ripoff of Astley’s signature lyrics “Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down."

It appears someone plagerized the speech on purpose. Trump is Twitter savvy but is well known for not being internet savvy. It could be possible that a speech writer put this in the speech so that Trump and Meliana would over look it, but the country would know, this was intentional.

I watched her speech because I was curious to get a feel for a woman who would marry Trump. When she quoted that Astley line, bells went off in my head, but I couldn't remember where I'd heard it before. But then people often quote songs in speeches, no big deal. But the rest? I, too, wonder how he can be so sloppy and sabotage himself over and over in ever more "creative" ways and still be so popular among voters. I also feel bad for Melania (assuming that she did not in fact write the speech). This is so not a good start to her being in the limelight.

One thing pundits kept saying last night was that if he doesn't deal with this and resolve it, the story is not going to go away anytime soon. I hope for Melania's sake he does the right thing and makes it go away as soon as possible. I haven't watched yet today.

I feel terrible for Melania. This is just awful. Finding out this likely was intentional by someone else is just heartbreaking. It's the worst of what America is, and they shouldn't have humiliated her this way.

For her sake I hope Trump shows some class and fires whoever did this. He's already had her on TV saying she wrote this, so I fear it's too late. :(

Yes, that was really too bad that she said she wrote it. I am trying to reserve any final judgment till the whole story comes out. I mean, what if she did write it? I still doubt it, but, I don't know, she really just volunteered that information. Lauer didn't ask her if she wrote it.

She offered that info? Strange. That could be a case of her protesting too much because she didn't actually write it alone. She likely had help, and if she didn't have help, she would have been the first in recent history.

Geez. We are only 1 day into this 4 day event. I can't imagine 4 years with this guy as president!

Well, I see the campaign is in denial as of now. Disgusting. Not surprised, though.

Yes. I imagine you can see the clip on the MSNBC website. Matt Lauer of NBC interviewed them while still on the plane after they landed last night. I've seen it several times on TV.

And, yeah, I wonder what kind of drama is going to happen today.

If Trump does not get to the bottom of this and make things right, I think that will tell us something about what kind of husband he is.
