News Donald Trump's Popularity To Date

I watched him say this on Monday afternoon. My jaw almost dropped to see someone with this experience saying this.
Party leaders have been quietly (or not so quietly) referring to them as brownshirts for awhile. Party officials can't say it, but others could. Trumpsters have responded with death threats. Because ya know, that really disproves the point. (Heavy sarcasm intended.)

The neverTrump delegates knew they were going to shut the mics off, and they were prepped for other much more aggressive efforts to silence them too. They expected that, but they didn't expect the RNC would be so in bed with the rule breaking. Not as far as it went. Again, the rules allow for a floor fight on many issues, and that's why so many actually go to these conventions.

I'm going to make two broad generalizations about the two parties - mostly about their leadership. Please know these are overly broad generalizations of party officials. They don't apply to all or even most members, but just the leadership as a general culture. This is also NOT a knock on either party, but my observation from being a delegate for both. Culturally, Republicans as a group of people tend to be very into rules, and following them, and not being even remotely mistaken for "rebel rousers." Democrat leaders are a little more tolerant of "rebellious" factions.

What the neverTrump delegates did at the RNC is a pretty big deal on a cultural level within the GOP because it was a little rebellious, but it was done following and using the rules.

That's kinda how republicans typically rebel against their leaders. It's all shifting with Trump...

The anger against Trump and the GOP grew at the convention. He threw all the rules out. It was going to be his way, period. No matter what the rules were.

One of the youngest GOP delegates messaged me right after all the chaos on the first day to say that the RNC under Trump's command was "not even following parliamentary procedure anymore!" This and many other delegates really did hope the RNC would keep Trump in check. The RNC didn't limit or control him, they enabled him. That's been a big eye opener for a few people. These delegates had already endured months of death threats, but strong arming wasn't from their own party officials.

But for me, I was like, yeah, um... you really expected him to follow parliamentary procedure after encouraging violence at state republican conventions?

They didn't expect that, but they hoped the RNC would make Trump follow the rules, and poured several million dollars and endless volunteer hours into their efforts to follow the rules to at least have a roll call vote at the convention. It's been eye opening for me to see the hope they put in the RNC following the rules.

but denial... ain't just a river in Egypt...*pounds head on wall*

Thank you for your insights and reporting, JMH. This is truly head-pounding stuff.

I get some comic relief from Trevor Noah. Last night he did a segment on "How the F#ok Did We Get Here?" What else can we do at this point except protect our mental health and vote against him?

I mean, seriously. The only thing I can think of to do is to try to persuade people to not vote for him and not to vote for anyone who will takes votes away from Hillary, which means, to be safe, vote for her. I know a lot of people don't want to do this, but we have to think of how absolutely disastrous it would be if Trump got elected. Not only would this not be a country worth living in anymore, it would be dangerous for all of us who are against him. I think he is so crazy that even though he can't stick to one position on anything for more than a few seconds, I believe he is a bulldog when it comes to people against him. At all costs we have got to avoid another McCarthy-era in the U.S. or worse, which is what Trump would do. And as some of us have subtly alluded, he may well even bring a fascist era to this country. How unAmerican can he get??

Oh, and my initial compassion toward Melania has been a bit tempered by reading in the New York Times how she changed the speech she was given by professional speechwriters to include those passages from Michelle Obama's speech in 2008. I can kind of give her a little leeway because a) she likes Michelle and b) she's not from here and most likely did not grow up understanding or having any knowledge of our copyright laws, but damn, if you're a frontrunner's spouse, you better damn well familiarize yourself with our laws and not break them.

This may well be the anti-dream couple.

I'm having YET ANOTHER "what the what?!" moment about the Trump campaign.

CNN and many others are reporting: "John Kasich would have been in charge of all domestic and foreign policy in a Donald J Tump White House, Kasich sources say."

It was widely known Trump has been offering positions of power to Republicans in exchange for compliance or participation in his campaign. But this is beyond what I ever thought. If this is as true, he pretty much offered Kasich the entire role and capacity of the president, except for appearances, and Trump would have been a figure head.

Which explains so damn much about the RNC right now. It sold itself to Trump for promises for ALL the power of the presidency. It also suggests Trump doesn't actually want to do the job of the president.

I have to admit, I'm kinda pissed at the moment.

From: http://www.vanityfair.com/news/2016/05/donald-trump-kids-normal
"How did a reality-television star, now the presumptive G.O.P. nominee, raise such normal kids? On some level, he did it by outsourcing the job. Trump and his first wife, Ivana, left their young children in the care of two Irish nannies and, for a time, their maternal grandparents, before sending the kids off to boarding school."
With all due respect I will take the word of Donald Trump's kids instead of an article by Vanity Fair. I will say this again. I have not come out and endorsed Trump, but I am greatly troubled by how many people here on the forum seem to think it is ok to say vile and disgusting things about him, and think it is ok to do so.

What gives you the idea that he wants to have sex with his daughter? I pay close attention to the news, and have never heard that. And yes, abused kids will say nice things about their abuser, but it is very clear when you listen to the adult Trump children, they have love and admiration for their father. There is no indication of abuse.
If you do not like Trump that is perfectly fine, but stick to the facts and not a lot of supposition.

Here you go, Russ:

That's just one instance. He's said it other times. If need be, I will search and post more links of other instances, but I get so creeped out, I hope this convinces you.

If my Dad ever said anything like that, I would be totally creeped out. Trump's kids were basically raised by nannies. He had practically no involvement with them. See JMH's link posted earlier about this.

but it is very clear when you listen to the adult Trump children, they have love and admiration for their father.

And why they did not register to vote in the NY GOP Primary?

This is a very big carrot: MY dad is POTUS. That does not translate necessarily as love, or admiration.

4,000 law suits and 4 bankruptcies. I do not find that admirable. Maybe his kids think it is just the way the world works. Not impressed.

sooo um whos moving to Canada and founding Shimmersville?

its really a wtf now since this started.

People accepting his hate speech going along because they dont like immigrants. This country wouldnt be a country without immigration. Everyones ancestors are from nearly every country on the globe. our statue of liberty welcomes them. yes some are illegal, but some of those choose to become citizens.

People not wanting to have the mentally ill running around.
People not wanting the gay, bi, lesbians, transgenders out in society.
People not wanting to treat people as people not as less than, different, unkind because of the color of their skin.
Women who have had an abortion for any reason (mine was medical)
Etc.

There is too much hate. and he picks up on it, grabs it and uses it for his own purposes. To be nominated on a platform of hate.
All of his supporters need to ask themselves if they want family and loved ones to be on his list of who gets deported, should be jailed, kept away from "normal" society etc.

The group of people that others raise their voice against are their mother, their father, sister brother, aunt, uncle, grandparents, daughter, son, best friend, neighbor, boss, co worker etc. If you care about those people, why elect someone who wants to do away with all of these people.
