***VIEWS POSTED HERE ARE NOT NECESSARILY MINE. I AM MERELY POSTING AN OPINION AS TO WHY PEOPLE FIND TRUMP APPEALING***
Here is the thing that I think makes Trump popular and I am merely surmising this from my own perspective. We live in an age of 24 hour news. If that news replays a jihadist going in a restaurant and blowing it up 100 times a day, we become conditioned to fear that behavior. I mean who wants to be blown up. Additionally, we determine that jihadists blow people up. Then, we determine that jihadist are Muslim and Muslim jihadists blow people up. Immediately we become apprehensive of Muslims because we don't know enough, aren't educated enough about the religion, and most importantly are AFRAID of what we don't know about. All we do know is that CNN, MSNBC, FOX, ABC, etc continue to replay this video of a jihadist blowing up innocent women and children and then they tell the American people they are coming here to do the same thing to us. Enter Donald Trump who plays on that fear of Americans and he tells us that the solution is not to allow them to come here anymore. To the average American, that sounds pretty smart because who wants to stroll down to the local restaurant only to be met with a fanatical person who decides to kill you bc you are Christian? His appeal to Americans is that he offers a solution to keep them safe. FEAR DRIVES ELECTIONS NOT PROSPERITY. Every politician does it, every party does it. Pick a subject, Guns, poverty, ISIS, North Korea, it is all about spreading fear that if Bernie is elected, or Hillary, or Trump that they do not have the balls to take care of business. Trump is appealing because he doesn't back down from topics that no one else offers a "solution" Jeb says it is Un-American to segregate Muslims (which I agree) from Christians, but he doesn't offer a plan that makes average Americans feel safe and all the while CNN continues to play the bombing... We are inflicting PTSD on ourselves by watching this crap.
You take the average working class, middle class citizen here who watches their job being taken over by non-American Mexican immigrant workers who work for half of what the American can, and pay no taxes, and that is a recipe for bad feelings. Add a guy like Trump who says "ship them back and build a wall" and that becomes very appealing to a lot of Americans. Additionally, realize that as we pay out the nose for insurance/Obamacare, they continue to receive free health care with no penalties. It's tough to swallow.
It is a sad state of rhetoric today in this country. I am sad for Americans, Muslim Americans, and Mexican Americans. We are being spoon fed fear everyday and that plays in to the hand of a guy like Donald Trump who will then turn our fear in to his vote because he is the only one catering to those who want decisive answers to what we are going to do. As over the top as Trumps agenda may be, he at least offers concrete answers that give many Americans a sense of safety. When your education of the world comes from CNN, or another media outlet, you can only surmise that the war is coming here and we need to be afraid. Sad, scary, but will make a kooky guy like Trump electable. I can't vote for him.... I am republican (generally but I vote for who I believe will do the best job) and I just decided I won't vote if he wins the nomination.
Edited to add:
I want to note that Americans are generally good people. In all of the scare about jihadists, ISIS, etc you haven't read about one fanatical Christian murder where they drug a Muslim American out and killed them for their religion. I think the very nature of our religious differences make things difficult in this country right now, however as a whole there isn't some general act of revenge on Muslims here. I am sure they are afraid and that makes me sad but I wanted to note that as a whole Americans are an accepting people. We are just being spoon fed fear from all directions right now. I hate that.
