Assault Dreaming Of My Attackers?

Hello,

I'm new here so forgive me if I've posted this in the wrong place!

Two months ago I was attacked when I was walking home just after midnight. I won't go into details, it's not really necessary for this.

I had pretty bad PTSD for the first couple of weeks, and it's gradually loosened up on me. I had to make myself go out, my antidepressant dose doubled, all that kind of stuff. I started running which has really helped me, so much so I'm running for a charity next month :-)

I'm doing ok, I guess. My depression dipped quite a bit but I'm back on track again and generally I've been okay.

In the last two weeks or so, I've been having a lot of dreams about being attacked. Sometimes my dream takes me back to that night, to that minute and I can see my attackers. Other times it doesn't include them but I'm being attacked another way by different people. One thing my dreams all have in common (apart from me being attacked) is that I can always hear my screams, like exactly how I screamed that night. They're always so real. I can feel in my chest, my throat, my ears and no one seems to hear me (like on the night).

Is this a symptom of PTSD? Has this happened to anyone else?

Yes i exsperience this most night its a symtom of ptsd try some coping grounding method one is called the tapping method orther is breathing teqniches

Did you have PTSD before the assault?

If not, you probably don't have it (statistically, it's about 1:5), which would be really, really good news as PTSD is a lifelong disorder. The symptoms of PTSD? Are normal following trauma. What's not normal is to still have the same symptoms, as if the trauma just happened, for the rest of your life. This article lists many of the things you can do to help decrease you're chances of developing PTSD following trauma. https://www.myptsd.com/threads/traumatic-resilience-avoiding-ptsd.83668/

If so, then it's really important to know that new trauma can bring a resurgence of symptoms. Both in the short term, or even running years. Even if you've been well managed for years, new trauma can slam you all the way back to the beginning of having to relearn everything. So it is very important if you start getting symptomatic again, to get into trauma therapy pronto.
