Eating Too Slowly

Does anyone else have this problem or know what causes it? I eat way too slowly - at times it can take an hour to eat a small bowl of food. I never used to be like this. Does anyone know if it's a symptom of any condition / illness? It's driving me crazy.

If this is a new thing in your life? Has anything else changed, recently? Do you simply have the time to eat slowly? Have food-thieves been removed? (Friends, family, housemates, pets, etc.). Is your anxiety up, making it difficult to swallow, or dry mouth, or making you feel nauseous or like you ate a brick if you eat too quickly? Is your disassociation kicking in and you're zoning out whilst eating? Any big changes -or stressors- that might be kicking in a control issue that's expressing in disordered eating? Can you taste the food you're eating? (Anhedonia). Or like/not like it? Dealing with any kind of depression?

There's a whole lot of factors that can affect eating speed. Those are just a few off the top of my head.

I eat very slowly. It irritates who I am at dinner with. I get embarrassed and take the majority of it home... I also eat slow at home. I know that in a restaurant setting, my anxiety level is high, which keeps me from concentrating on my food... I rarely taste the food when I am out dining. And I do know that I disassociate while eating many times... it was always a stressful situation at meal time when I was growing up...has something from your past come up about eating that you are needing to look into further...It doesn't irritate me... just the people I am with. Hope you find what is causing this.... hope you come back and let us know... maybe it will help me to understand myself better...

I can taste food just fine, my anxiety is definitely up, some people were harassing me - that's when I noticed I slowed right down eating - but it was several months ago and I've moved away so they can't harrass me anymore but I'm left with this issue. I think I do zone out, I get weird moments where I feel as if I'm going to faint while eating - but don't, it's only ever a feeling that I will.

hey,
Try think about your breathing, and maybe have some music that you like on? Just a couple of things that might help you keep focused. The faint could be not breathing enough, if your taking a long time chewing / zoned out.
