Hey aAnne, How about an intro? Helps people know where your comin from.

I've been doing EMDR for about 6 months now. Effective? It probably can be. My therapist seems reluctant to discuss real traumas most days. Almost like she's afraid to hear it as much as I'm reluctant to go there. When we do do sesions, it's 2 hours, once every 2 weeks or so. Most of my appointments we haven't actually done EMDR though.

Hey Anne,

I haven't done EMDR but a lot of CBT over the last year, and it has helped me a lot. I have been going once a week for about 3 months and then twice a week for about 8 months or so.

Been doing both EMDR ans CBT for a good while now. I find the EMDR hard, physically and mentally, and the CBT a bit soft tbh. For example I've had to do a time line for a specific day.
0630 Went for breakfast Location: cookhouse What were your thoughts/feelings: hungry tired, need more tea, What does this say about you? Umm I was hungry and needed another brew......
That kinda of thing.
I think EMDR as Zipper pointed out depends on the therapist. Mine is ace, told me straight out "I ain't gonna f*ck about, there are gonna be days that you'll leave here and you'll hate me. Meh, it's my job, long term you'll want to buy me a beer. And to be honest yes I do. It all depends on how open you are to the idea, and the relationship you have with the therapist. Give it a try.

Who has had this treatment and for what lenghth of time try 24hrs aday 2yrs.-
EMDR is the most effective treatments for PTSD and is backed by the DoD and Department of Veteran's affairs. Length of treatment depends on the extent or layers of the trauma - how many, how thick. Unlike CBT, EMDR has the ability to permanently flush out the negative impact of the trauma so that an individual is no longer driven by it. To understand how the brain responds to trauma, I suggest you read Getting Past Your Past by the developer of EMDR, Francine Shapiro. It will help you understand the longlasting effects that EMDR can have on you. Also I suggest going to EMDRIA.org, Find a Therapist, to locate a EMDRIA-Certified Therapist. This designation indicates an individual with advanced training in EMDR. Finding the right therapist can be key to the success of the treatment.

Morning Takoda. Once again, how about an intro? Helps others understand where you're coming from, and what experience you base your opinions on. My guess after reading that is some kind of medical back ground.

I must concur with Zip here...an intro would be nice please. We have no idea who the two of you are (Takoda and Anne). Thanks
