EMDR treatment bring up somatic signs?

I’ve been doing EMDR for a while now and I seem to be working on a part that concerns my neck. Each time I do the EMDR my neck plays out a pattern and I sort of go with it. I have no obvious memories of what this pattern is speaking but it is concerning.

Anyway the main point is that I have now developed red marks on my neck since doing EMDR on this part, the marks don’t look like insect bites but sort of patchy red grip marks... and I have these marks nowhere else on my body other than the areas that hold tension when the target area is recalled and worked with. I wonder if working on this target area has brought up somatic memories.

Have others had experience of this where body memories show overt signs that something has occurred? I can’t help but feel this is occurring however there isn’t much information out there on this sort of stuff.

Interested to know have others had ‘signs’ after working with memories? Thanks

A trauma therpaist for an inpatient PTSD unit said that from time to time, he would see spontaneous marks consistent with the trauma show up on the body. The book, Dead Link Removed goes over a lot of ways trauma gets “stuck” in the body. EMDR can stir it up and help work it through.

Thanks that looks like a book that touches on the subject. I also found it described as kinaesthetic instrusions, apperently happens with dissociated away memories. Interesting.

Yeah, the book I mentioned talks about the theory of the trauma being held in the body as a "dissociative capsule" and through different therapies like EMDR, the body and brain become integrated again, and the somatic signs and symptoms resolve themselves.
