Do you mind my asking what it was like Falling? Were you conscious? No worries if you can't answer.

@shimmerz I recently posted about it. I didn't feel it coming on but I was sitting up and everything blacked out but stayed sitting up. I remember just feeling fear for no reason and that's all. Then I started coming to and hearing and seeing but my vision flashed from one side of the room to the other for at least 30 seconds. Then I was okay but confused and out of it. I can't remember the next half hour what I was doing or saying. After that I was fine though just super confused and worried about it. I went to urgent care after bc my doc requested me too and they said it was a seizure but with no cause. Be careful reporting to your doc though because they almost took my license for three months. Next time if it happens they will have to by law.

Yes, this is a good warning. I voluntarily stopped driving for over a year so that wouldn't happen.

I will look for the posting Falling. Sorry to ask you to repeat yourself. Do you generally trigger into a fear response?

@shimmerz no need to apologize. I don't mind sharing. I posted that before I knew what it was while I was figuring it out. I do trigger into a fear response but never before has it caused a seizure. I've had seizures in the past for other reasons though. I'm usually not that out of control of what's going on but when I trigger it's sudden intense fear almost like I can't move. Scary.

@shimmerz Yes, I am still here. In terms of my seizure status, I believe that I don't have any grey matter heterotopias or other seizure markers. I have a referral to our state facility that does video eeg and MRI testing. Right now I have a plan which is in the works which is to reduce my work schedule below the SGA standard which would allow me to qualify for Disability. In so doing this, this temporary eliminates my health insurance and some other benefits I currently get working more hours.

Crap, yes, I do recall this posting @SeanGeo. Okay, so they did the scan for heterotopia and found nothing then. A scan was requested for me due to the abortion attempts while gestating. It is interesting though because until I was thrown into this bout of PTSD I hadn't had drop attacks at all. I was just interested in whether you were actually diagnosed with heterotopia.

Oh, wait a minute - you haven't had an MRI done then? So they don't know for sure if there is an issue? They need an MRI to diagnose with heterotopia don't they?
Thanks for your response. Just in case someone searches this thread I thought this might be something we could bring to people's attention.

sudden intense fear
I have just started (in the last couple of months) having this as well Falling. As a matter of fact, I would describe it as a terror that is so encompassing....I have never felt (to my recollection) anything like it before. I am so sorry for this for you. Awful, isn't it? With your eyes darting back and forth....I wonder if EMDR is a good thing for you or not. Do you do EMDR?

@shimmerz I am officially diagnosed with epilepsy. What I believe is I have been misdiagnosed for whatever reason which is a lie. My research seems to point to a connection between ptsd and seizures (psychogenic) rather than neurological. Because I have not seen myself having a seizure from the outside (i.e video taping me having one) I only know what I experience during an episode including a loss of consciousness with periods of anxiety along with a type of visual aura.

I've had an MRI done previously, possibly two actually. both of those show no grey area heterotopias.

I think this happens more often than we think @SeanGeo . I do believe that physical things need to be ruled out, but just as much as that I think that psychogenic should be looked at just as seriously. Thanks so much touching base about it. Good luck with your testing!

@shimmerz Thanks, sorry you have to go through that too! I don't do emdr. It scares me mainly because that's what is happening when I lose complete control and the trauma takes over and also because there is new research showing that emdr may be harmful for complex development ptsd. This is because it is hard to target developmental trauma with emdr. I'm not saying it doesn't work for some but thats why I don't do it. If I can catch myself early enough and ground myself and relax I can usually stop the reactions. Also once I've processed it and have she'd some of the initial fear and shame inside of me from telling no one it gets easier too.
