So I went back to seeing the therapist that my measly insurance will cover, not my first choice, only game in town. Anyway, I've finally worked up to talking about a chapter of my past that was really traumatic for me, and her response has been less than therapeutic to say the least.
When I first began edging towards the topic, I noticed she would get cagey and make weird gestures and then move to shut the topic down or change the subject with some lame comment. The more I got into it, the more convinced I became that she was triggered by it and would do pretty much anything to get out of talking about it. I asked her once, "Don't you have anything to ask about that period?" She responded with icy silence and then, "Not really." Not really? WTF? It's a subject dense with trauma, drama, material custom made for therapy, and she's telling me she has nothing to ask about it?
This is pi**ing me off. I confronted her and asked her if she was triggered by it. She acted like she didn't know what I was talking about. I'm sick to death of therapists that make you beg to talk about what's bothering you.
Have you had a therapist who seems too triggered by your issues to really go there with you? How did you deal with it?
