Children when they are young have the most vivid imaginations, shit, it's why we have half the things in this world I believe, people imagined it. Ask as teenager to imagine stuff now and it's about technology. They have forgotten how to build forts, play dress ups, cowboys and Indians etc, they do know how to spend money, play video games, watch dvd's, use emoticons etc.

They have lost the respect for fellow man, partly because of social media. On there they see all sorts of shit, so why should they conform to something different.

True words Mate.

When I was a kid we played outside all day till it got dark. We made up our own games, then argued about them of course. We made our own toys to play with. We built forts and tree houses, out of stone ( stone age :ROFLMAO:) We had an imagination, that's all we needed. We were kids, we didn't want to grow up too fast. We didn't want to be our parents. We enjoyed being kids. We didn't need much.

It's so different today as to be as different as day is from night. The rate of change hasn't been greater at any other time in history except for the future. I envy kids today for all the things they'll get to see in the future; Humans landing on Mars, people living almost disease free till 130 years, perhaps many of the problems of today at least in the works.

But the downside is the fact that they grow up too damn fast. They want to be and think they are grown up. The things we valued has no value to them sadly. As much as things have changed since I was young the amount that things will change in the same amount of time will be 5 or 10 times as much.

I do have to say that every once in a while a kid will hold the door open for me so that I may enter first. I tell them to tell their parents that they've done a good job. With all the ones that don't have respect there are a few that do. Perhaps that will be enough. I'll always be a cynic but I'll always see the glass as half full. Don't know if they're mutually exclusive.

Guys, there's even a suggestion that being indoors, sparkly clean is why so many kids have so many allergies these days. Surely it contributes heavily to being overweight...sorry pun unintended. The reason we didn't get all the stuff they get today was we were covered in dirt all the time. Dirt=jerms. We built up natural immunity to it.

There's good reason for optimism, Jar. In smaller towns like I live in, kids are better behaved and often quite respectful. Just worked side by side sorting clothes with one and he worked twice as hard as I and smiled and laughed most the time.

No offense to those living in larger cities, but I think there is a certain prison element to living that close together. Then again, I've known New Yorkers that you would have to drag them kicking and screaming from that concrete jungle.

Agree, probably because the community can play a better role in helping to mentor them properly with the parent's consent

Being a city boy and one that grew up around 5 years before computers really took off and made some kids useless; I managed to retain my respect for elders and fellow people. My parents were from good working class stock and quite a few with military backgrounds, they educated me well.

What your getting now, is those around my age, who had useless parents and were allowed to procrastinate until they developed cankles; are now having their own kids. Basic decent parenting skills for a great deal of families have now been forgotten.

Cities are a breeding ground for the poor and uneducated, that's why so many of the little shits are found there.

How can you blame a 10 year old kid for unacceptable behaviour, if he/she has never been educated properly? Then when this kids grows up to be 30 year old, society will have outcast them and they'll be robbing to pay for a smack habit.

We're doomed!;)

I went off the rails aged 16, because I wanted independence. My parents were decent; they did all they can. Some kids just go for it. I sit here 12 years later, allot wiser and understand what crap I put my mum through.

I'm about to enter my 3rd year of a social work degree, this sort of stuff is always a great debate.

No, I do not agree.
That is the original playground.

This is the original playstation:

It requires rudimentary hand/eye coordination, minimal aptitude, and cause the brain to go numb for hours on end.

dam right, i got locked out of my house by my own mother between meals in daylight hours during school breaks.

but and this a big but, its maybe a generation thing. our dads said to us 'kids of today have no respect', their dads said it to them, and their dads said and so on.

my son the smartass said to me the other day and i summarize here "yeah our generation might be screwed, but your generation raised us, where did YOU go wrong...". hard to argue with that. he's a teen so its usually easy to argue

and kids today have a don't give a f*ck attitude, but dam a lot of adults have lost respect for fellow man as well, especially because of social media, from what i see online and the 'say what you say from a keyboard'. i don't know if people ever really had respect for fellow man either at any time in history. the old days were dam brutal i guess. maybe we have more respect for each other than ever in 2013 than we ever did in history with more worker's and equal rights etc?

just thinking out louds but i see these kind of sentiments a lot and just kind of wonder

Jock you are on to something there, how in the world can we teach our children to respect their fellow man when their parents don't have any. You see it with the law. Police may be arseholes at times, but they are just doing a job, and if you do the crime no matter how petty, expect to do the time.

Still a fan of a good ass whipping, no matter what the touchy-feely every little shit is special and unique bullshit laws dictate. However, since ass whippings will land you in hot water, good old fashioned hard work was my go to when my kids were younger. Dig a ditch. Fill it in. Dig it again and get it right this time...

GORMAN: Apone! Look... we can't have any firing in there. I, uh... I want you to collect magazines from everybody.
HUDSON: Is he f*cking crazy?
FROST: What the hell are we supposed to use man? Harsh language?
