News Explosion At Boston Marathon 2013

At times, I hate the media. Is it just British media or is it the same all over?

I went to bed last night and thought about the victims, those living and dead including emergency services personnel. The thought then popped into my mind, I wonder how long it will take British media to find a Brit who was caught in the explosions. Ideally, for them, I'm sure they would want a Brit who was injured. Then I castigated myself for being an old cynic.

So, I wake this morning and who have the BBC found. A Brit who was running in the race. He and his family were save and were back at the hotel when the bombs went off.

In my mind, media are like vultures, preying off the sorrow of others.

Sorry for the rant.

I am wryly amused at the attitude by a couple of posters above, but not surprised. But though uncomfortable I guess it is good for me to read other perspectives. I am an idealist and even I don't believe that "mourning every day" does one damn thing except make me depressed. Utopian world views are admirable but basically fly in the face of human behavior. It is not a new problem, even cave men grouped together to throw rocks and spears at each other.

So does that mean we shouldn't strive to change that? By the same logic, let's just keep all the women in the kitchen etc.

Anyway, my point was merely this: what makes the lives of innocent Americans more valuable than the lives of other innocent people around the world? Of course, in all of this, there is a bigger picture in terms of why this happens...Yes, there are psychos out there but what produces these psychos? Etc. The mainstream media won't ever go there.

And one further thought, I too, am amused by some of the posts here, Albatross. Some of them read kind of like, we have a right to cause this kind of tragedy and havoc anywhere in the world and do this to anyone we want to, regardless of the numbers and ages of the victims...

I'm interested to see how this plays out. I mean last fall there was Newtown, and now a select group is fighting to defend their "right" to own assault weapons. This time, less deaths, but I have a feeling that there isn't a bomb lobby going to fight for the right to own bombs. So here we have a disparity simply because the "weapon" was different in each case.

Many say "they" and I get the feeling that its assumed this was a foreign attack. (On the news, etc). I don't think we should jump to that conclusion.

It all saddens and sickens me.

I think that if one suffers all suffer. The amount of pain of the crimes against humanity justbreak my heart. Despicable acts against innocent people all over the world.

To keep my sanity I tend to focus on the great people who will help the survivors and the dead.

There will never be an end to violence. Too many people suffer mental problems that never have help when they are open to it and just fall through the cracks and disappear only to pop up at a later date wrecking their twisted plans.

Just my opinion.

I can not begin to guess what the intent of the original poster was except to comment on a tragedy. She is a "non-American". It does though appear that she was expressing concern for people who are members here from Boston.

My response was more to another poster who turned it into what it is now...I do not want to minimize this tragedy but it bothers the crap out of me when people make ignorant comments without even having all the facts. Not to mention that this event was/is a huge trigger for me.

My thoughts go out to all those involved whatever nationality.

It is a sad state of affairs that someone should target innocent people to make a point? They have not even told us what it is yet.

I know here in the UK there were talks of stopping the London marathon but the opinions were over whelming that we were not going to hide away in fear and let these murderers win.

This is a tragic day for humanity and show how people are so intent on power and control they will murder fellow man all over the world. :(

best wishes
Saffy :)

Both CNN and the New York Post jumped the gun

As much as I wanted to believe it I thought that was fast. What happened to only reporting facts and the truth? Where is the integrity of the reporters? Everyone wants to be first so they go with speculation and insider leaks. I have to say it was a let down for me and I cannot imagine what the survivor's and the families of the victims were going through. You think there is closure and there is nothing but irresponsible reporting. I think they should fine CNN and Fox for the false reports. My prayers are with you Boston!
