Extremely Worried About My Son - His PTSD Is Way Out Of Control

Lord, Marlene there isn't a chance of that here.

You only get bussed to school if you live 2 km away. Home schooling is only through the Ministry of Education and there is a ton of red tape (which I am not doing), and the resources at school are not used for kids like Matt. According to the school Matt's PTSD just does not count. I've been there done that and lost that fight. FAC'S even fought it out with the school over not providing Matt with an enviornment he could learn in. The most they would give him is a desk in the hallway to work in when it was too noisy. The system here is freindly towards ADHD but that's about it.

In fact, we have laws here that when a child misses so many days, it's an automatic fail for the year. So if you have a chronic illness, good luck on passing your grades.

Bec,

Sorry...and that really sucks! I hope that Thunder Bay pans out for you guys. I'll keep my fingers crossed for that.

Yes I must agree, from working within the system myself, ADHD is taken seriously, but not much else is. It's a shame and rather disgusting as well. I am delighted about the doctor's suggestion of Thunder Bay, however. That is promising news bec. I do hope it all works out for you!

Hi Bec,

Do you think it's possible that Matt's passing out is connected with him not feeling well recently (when we were wondering if it was the appendix)? I hope he feels better. And, hopefully, the Thunder Bay thing will work out. Take care.

update!

Really: he passed out from an axiety attack. thought he seen the man who beat him and passed out cold. Didn't tell me that until late that night.. but that's the cause.

Okay, so i just got off the phone with The Children's Centre. Man did I luck out! I called the only place that deals with this! They have experience with PTSD in children and are taking him! We are on a wait list just till we move there. She told me that Matt needs therapy at least once a week, so they won't start till we get there. They will set up all the programs for him once we are there and she even gave me the number for help for me! Amazing people! Will be putting him in a big brother program, also, since I can't role model, I just reinforce his anxiety (boy do I ever agree with that!)

I'm so freaking excited! We move July 1st! Now, just to find a place to live, and the money to do so.. ohh i'm nervous! LOL

too excited to think straight now!!!

That is such wonderful news Bec! Jim and I are very excited for you. I'm sure Evie will be too once we tell her. Congratulations and our best wishes always.

hello Becvan, i think Veiled has given you good advice. I myself have a ptsd from militairy mission in Bosnie (nearly shot) and have all ptsd symptoms. I am out of the forces now, because I have only rest capacity for work of 45%.
I was a Major RNLAF but also educated pedagogic and educational/training specialist.
I have had support from psychotherapists from RNLAF and Sinai Centre (jewish). Looking back the support was very good but the treatment (EMDR and Cognigtive behavior therapy) was not succesfull.
The thing what helps me out is Equine Assisted Therapy (EAT). Riding a horse and caring for her gives me satisfaction and cleans my head for a while from misery things. The PSTD symptoms have not vanished and are still there but
EAT lets it disappear for a few hours a day so I have some rest in my mind.

Maybe you and your sun can gain some profit as well from animal assisted therapy.

Never take medicine, because it will ruin your health.

good luck and some day you also will have leart to cope with PTSD.

bec,
Im so happy to hear you got to the right people. i think the move will be great for both of you. take care:hello: let us know how it go's.
