Sufferer Feeling Anxiety from Secondary abuse

Hi, I’m a 39 year old mom dealing with what feels like a freezing effect after saving my daughter from her father and his horrendous abuse.

While she seems to do well (at least maybe blocking it out) I feel frozen, unable to work a basic job and deal with people in a basic level. I feel frozen in time, apathetic and lost, and I don’t know how to fix it. I already suffer from an addictive personality, and I don’t want to turn to that again for relief, I don’t have health insurance and simply can’t afford it. How can you reprogram your brain without professional help??

Welcome to the forum:)

Freezing is the brain’s way of coping with overwhelming stress. It takes longer when you’re recovering from chronic stress (like escaping abuse), but the crux of it is much the same - getting back to a space where your system can feel calm, safe and relax again.
