Feeling Useless, Pathetic, Like A Burden...

I can relate too. "Ignorance is bliss" they say, and I think that is usually the case. People want to be happy and so in order to maintain their happiness and sense of purpose/worth in the world they can't deal with the harsher realities of life so they push them aside or outright reject them as false information. People don't like their established beliefs about the world to be challenged. If you believe the world is mostly peaceful you'll ignore the atrocities or see them are rare events while if you believe the world is mostly hostile you'll ignore the good things happening in the world or see good events as rare. It largely depends on the life experiences which shape us.

I think overall though people are just trying to survive and enjoy life as best they can and it's much easier if you don't think too much or dwell too long on the bad things. The sad thing is that if everyone was ignorant or ignored the bad things they don't want to be burdened with the world would be a horror house for everyone. It's the people that have been through things or are open to see the world for what it truly is who have brought the most positive change to the world; and though they might have found life more burdensome with that knowledge they made the world better for everyone else a little. So, I think all of us have more potential to change the world than a lot of people who are less burdened by life experience as we are capable of seeing, accepting, and dealing with the hardest realities of the world and challenging them. Our biggest obstacle's are remembering there is good in the world too and that there is always hope.
