Emma's Revolution has a song (a duet), Clear Blue Skies, about one partner supporting the other with PTSD...

There's a chill in the air
And a blanket of grey
Then a shadow of doubt
Eclipses the day
All it takes is a word
And a faint little spark
Be true to yourself
Step into the dark

Hold me close
Turn out the light
I'll be with you wherever you go tonight
You are safe
When we rise
I will bring you your clear blue skies

There's fear in my eyes
And thoughts on my mind
That take me away
And leave you behind
The time is right now
A moment in space
You are never alone
Here in this place

There’s a small cluttered room
Where the sun never goes
A place in my head
And all the doors close
There’s a break in the wall
Where the air rushes through
And the light cuts a path
From me to you

The characters that come to my mind are:

Antwone Fisher in the movie by the same name.

Detective Benson in this season of Law & Order: SVU

And, although I haven't read it yet (literally just now downloaded it to my kindle and can't wait to start it!) - Elizabeth Smart's memoir "My Story" just came out on Tuesday and I think it will be very insightful.

Most of the ones that come immediately to my mind have already been shared. However, I can think of a few others from book series that I like:

Harry Dresden, Karrin Murphy, and Thomas Raith from The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher
Wulfgar and Drizzt from R.A. Salvatore's series'
Watson from Sherlock Holmes (Not certain how apparent this is in the different movies/tv series, but it is fairly clear in the original books by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle)
Spiderman, Magneto, and Punisher in Marvel Comics

I am on the fence about whether or not Agent Phil Coulson on Marvel's Agents of Shield might be an allegorical or literal example of someone with PTSD. It is very early in the series and we need Joss Whedon to reveal how Phil is alive for the full implications, I suppose. And maybe more evidence. I could be completely off. What do y'all think?

  • Darby in the Darby series (books) by Chris Mooney
  • Savannah, Luke and her mother, I suppose, and, maybe, Tom, but don't think so, in "The Prince of Tides" (movie staring Barbra Streisand, Nick Nolte and others)
  • prot in K-PAX (movie staring Kevin Spacey, also a book series worth reading)
  • "Defective Detective" Monk in the MONK tv series
  • DI Jack Caffery (book series by Mo Hayder)
  • Clara in "Clara's Secret" (movie staring Whoopi Goldberg)
  • The little girl in "House of Cards" (movie staring Kathleen Turner and Tommy Lee Jones)
  • Celie in "The Colour Purple" (movie staring Whoopi Goldberg, but also a book)
  • Idgie, I would think, in "Fried Green Tomatoes" (movie staring Kathy Bates, Mary Stuart Masterson, Jessica Tandy, Mary-Louise Parker)
  • Truman in "The Truman Show" (movie staring Jim Carrey), well, he might develop PTSD, because if someone were to be sold to a tv station and then grow up that way, how would they not, but that's just me assuming...

  • Speaking of Adam Sandler, and I don't know what happened to his character, but he is Barry Egan in punch drunk love. At the very least he has explosive intermittent behavior and is misunderstood by his family. Barry Egan has been a highly internalized character for me, and screen name/alter-ego.
But my current soul-character is:
  • Dexter
