Fifty Shades Trilogy

Butterfly I ended up just skimming over or skipping the sex scenes so they didn't register enough to bother me. Don't let the sex in Book One throw you, the next two books are tamer. i read the first book just to see what the fuss was about, but ended up enjoying the growth of the characters. I must say though, that the next book I read after these was very dull in comparision!

I couldn't make it through the 1st book, gave mine away, and no it didn't make me hot. It made me angy, weepy, and confused. So I'm the outlier. But having discussed it with my psychiatrist, he was amazed - given my history - that I ventured to read it at all. I felt like I had to since everyone I know was discussing it and said it was erotic.

I'm glad for people whose sex lives are not ruined because it is such an integral part of being a human. Having been sexually abused and physically abused - it was just beyond my ability to tolerate it. I had even hoped that I would think it exciting or erotic since I have no physical desire at all.

Guess I'll stick to history and science.

At least you gave it a shot which was brave of you. Different things bother different people and some things we don't think may bother us do etc. We all have different reactions. Don't be bothered by it and maybe the next book you'll love and I won't. You don't know until you try.

I was just watching a British comedy show - Mock the Week.

They had the answer 85 Million and wanted to know the question. One of the commedians answered, the number of tissues used by readers of Fifty Shades, because it was a real tear jerker - lol.

My birthday is in August, this series will be on my list :D.

On book 3 - thoroughly enjoying it. It's actually gotten to be a bit addictive. There are things that I think I could learn from Anastasia. I like how in the 3rd book she stuffs her insecurity and pushes aside her intimidation of him and just speaks her mind - but she does so in a very emotionally enduring way. I think i may need to take some pointers from her :-).

I have to laugh - I didn't tell my mom I was reading these books...the subject of the books is just not something we talk about. She calls today and says, "everyone at my work is reading a book, so I had to buy it too and...oh my I can't believe I like it! Now I have to buy the other two!" So I ask her what books they are and she pretends I didn't ask her anything at all. So I ask again and she tellls me she's reading these books. LOL.

I told her I read them but wasn't going to say anything. She said, "Well, no I wasn't going to tell you either, you don't need to know your mother is reading something so..." and then the subject is changed back to other things. :roflmao:

I read Tess of the D'Urbervilles - that's about as racy as I want to get. It made me boiling mad though - how women were treated and thought of back then.

I gave my copy of Fifty Shades away to one of the young nurses at work - she said she couldn't imagine a woman my age reading it....ouch.

I have just started reading the first of these, as my daughter has lent it to me. She is now reading the second and will lend me that one when she has finished it.

I found out last night that Universal Pictures has the job for making this into a movie. I am still thinking how they're going to do this with any real substance and credit to the books story, considering some of the sex scenes within the series, opposed to others that are brushed over quickly.
